Monza confusion

Right I'm after some 18" monza 2's so I've put a thread on the wanted section, noone has replied yet incidentally! Anyway, am I right in thinking that the monza 2 comes with the black inserts or are there 2 types. And what is the difference between the original monzas and the 2's?

I don't really want replicas as id like the real McCoy but is there anywhere I can get a good set of replicas from? I'm sorry I know this question has probably been answered a thousand times before but just desperate to upgrade from my 17s.

So there are two designs of the 18" monza wheels, Monza II's have anthracite inserts and a diamond cut face, Monza shadows are off the MK6 and have a black insert with a diamond cut face.

The original Monza II's from the MK5 were also produced by two different manufacturers Ronal and BBS the later have metal valves that are thinner than the standard rubber type.

Technically I would also consider Huffs/Detroits as Monza design 18" wheel with a different finish, but others may shoot me down for saying that.

As for reps no idea on that front, personally I wouldnt bother as unless you can see them in the flesh and pic them up in comparison to a genuine wheel you really dont know what your getting.  And originals can be picked up and refurbed for reasonable money, especially if you forgo the diamond cut face!

Be aware that any diamond-cut alloy wheel can be subject to the dreaded white worm surface corrosion and it only takes a minor chip to break the lacquer finish and road salts start it off.

I'd consider keeping your Monza 17's as a wheel for winter tyres if you have to regularly go out in bad conditions.

So the White worm problem still hasn't been sorted yet then. So the diamond cut ones are just the ones with the black inserts? Or are all monza 2s diamond cut?

Monza Shadow = 18 inch black powdercoated inner with polished and lacquered face, factory option on a mk6 GTI
Detroit is the commonly used in the UK name for a matte black powdercoated version of the 18'' Monza with a polished lip, originally fitted to a Euro spec Edition 30 GTI but also available as a VW accessory wheel.

Denver is what VW calls the 17'' Monza in most other countries and Detroit is the 18'' Monza II in most other countries should you require any further confusion.

....In spite of numerous (hundreds if not thousands of) warranty claims and replacements not only among VAG but also Mercedes and other brands, NO! Still not sorted out. Goodness knows why not.

All Monza 2's are diamond-cut and clear lacquered.

I know diamond-cut looks nice but I'd never have wheels with that finish ever again. Hence my Monza 2's are now powdercoated.

So what does this exactly mean? Is it a layer of protection or what? Also is it cheap to get done?

Why do BBS continue to manufacture wheels with this finish when it's been proven beyond doubt that it's prone to failure?
