Dip in HP/Torque above 5k rpm
« on: December 08, 2010, 07:30:54 pm »
Many have problems with this and many solutions are suggested to resolve this.

Ever since my K04 build i have had this problem and many solutions have been tried incl. fitting the RS4 pressure valve. not that it made any harm but my problem showed below wasn't resolved

At a little Meet a couple of month ago i started to talk with a halfswede, danish guy living in sweden, and he had had the same problem with his ed30 after fitting exhaust and getting his map just right.
He has helped me log to see and understand the problem.
Apparently some software developers are very cousios and when they map the write so that the system runs very fat. For example the std. ED30 map runs with a lambda value of 0,83 (the higher the number the leaner the system runs) these software writers ask the system to request a value of 0,75 which is very fat .
What has happend with my car is that after app. 2800 rpm the system request the 0,75 and the system accepts a difference of this value of + - 25%. when reaching above 5000rpm at wot the 25% is exceeded and the system lowers the boost until it is able to work within tolerances. then the boost goes back up again, with a very annoying hold in accereration as a result  :fighting:
well after a very hard battle to get my softwaresupplier to first of admit and supsequently changing the map for me, i now have this instead

Now thats more like it   :jumping:   :driver:

Please let the experiences flow to the screen in here  :drinking:

So what did APR change to lose the dip/flat spot?

I guess they leaned out the AFR a little.

i requested that they went for 0.80 to 0.83 instead of the 0.75 in my previous map  :happy2:

to log and recognice this problem  use these blogs and of course use theb turbo setting:

1. Blok 002, 031 og 230.

2. Blok 003, 020 og 115.

Looking at mikes Cupra stage 2+ APR logs that we did, his never requested below 0.8 until 5400rpm and even then it never dropped below 0.75 at all.  I wander why APR set it so low in the first place.

The reply i have gotten is that it's for safety, keeping the EGT's at a safe level, but this has no hold in reality. i'm not educated enough in this to say what it should be, but all i can say is this was the reason for me never to rev above 5 k as i hated the lack of power above.

whilst Im happy for you to have a fix danish  :happy2:
It begs the question about APR R&D , this hasnt been fully tested me thinks, so now its ok to 'edit' a file and supply it to you with very limited testing
(unless of course they already know its safe, but dont want everyone to know and retro fit to all cars....)

surely it must be the tuner not knowing what he is doing if there are guys over here running much leaner mixtures on their APR sftware without having to ask

As i have a friend with almost similar specs i await better weather to log his car and see what the lambda values is on his. I was under the assumption that the software was stock or similar within the same package mine being a K04 conversion of a normal GTI. Altough the software is okay now, i can't help but thinking that i would be better of with the software of a certain competitor. As the apparently has made their map with a bit more nose for the european market and not a map that are über safe. It's a hard decision for me as i really love the tricks of APR maps, with the CC stalk error deletion and map change. Now the map is change according to my (and i'm a novice) specs meaning i set the values and they have changed them accordingly, but are they numbers i gave optimal??

Tough call  :sad1:
