Replacement Key+FOB
« on: February 20, 2009, 11:19:00 pm »
Hi,

Anybody know the part number for a key + FOB for MK5 GTI, I have seen a few on ebay and they seem to sell for a resonable price but I assume you have to get VW to program them? Anyone done this before and know the costs to just program one?

I had a replacement fob under warranty with my previous beemer.  The dealership mentioned it was typically around £80.  They programmed it at no cost.  It takes anything between 10-30 mins.

I'm assuming you could find a VW dealership kind enough to do the same?

The main key with the transponder is £50 you will need to supply them with your key, I think they flash your key and copy the details on to the new key...part# is 1T0 837 246

There is 4 different lower halfs to the key transmitter mainly cos they have different frequencies but they cost around £45 and the main part# is 1K0 959 753 then either G, J, K, or M. The dealer will order the right one from your chassis number/reg number,

So are we saying this could potentially cost beyond £95? Ouch!  :surprised:

I was quoted for new key fob and setup for £150. So I was thinking get the parts from ebay and then see how much it would cost to program it by VW and also cut the new blade. Doesnt look like anyone has had it done this way?

dont buy off ebay unless you can really trust the seller,  the keys on ebay are rubbish the blades are either too soft and snap or too hard a metal that the dealer will not cut them...also if the key already has a code on the transponder from another car it will NOT recode to your car,

As above be wary of using eBay fobs as they can only be used on one brand and are once only.
