I dont think its just your generation Robin, I think its just people who can actually drive I will always use engine braking down big hills and it drives me mental how some people think there cars can only take corners at 5mph IMO there are a lot of people on the road that have no real concept of driving, not how to pass a test but how to safely drive a car such as anticipation lifting off the throttle rather than always on one pedal or other and progressively steering a car so that you can safely take a corner at speed, and I wont even start on people lane discipline on roundabouts!!!!  :fighting:


....Oh yes! Roundabouts! I had one yesterday while I had a Police car on my tail and he didn't stop and caution/educate them. Probably because he was intent on following me, so I decided to drive enthusiastically but absolutely within the law - The Quaife diff works very well on greasy road surfaces on roundabouts!

It's strange how one builds up a sixth sense and intuition about other drivers behaviour and then anticipates it. If there's other traffic on a roundabout I always assume they'll do the worst. I've actually gone completely around a roundabout to avoid someone cutting across me from the lefthand lane!

Funny how they dont tell you that when you learn to drive, and yet its the best single piece of advise you can give a driver!

Assume people will cut across the roundabout
Assume people will pull out on you at junctions
Assume BMW drivers will do what the hell they want and then try to blame you....  :P

....At the risk of sounding pedantic, I'd say " Assume people might" rather than "will", as otherwise we'd be behaving like scared rabbits.

Not in my English lessons! We're talking about a possible event in the future, the subtext in the use of assume removes the hypothetical, in my eyes anyway - your behaviour is permanently altered in anticipation of risk.

May and Might – "May" should only be used where the event in question is still possible, not for something that was possible in the past. "Might" is properly the past tense form of "may". (In similar fashion, "could", "should", and "would" are all past tense forms for "can", "shall", and "will", respectively.)

LOL - we're waaaaay into the realms of off topic now!!

Oh, and 312s on that car say scene-mobile. Pub bragging power with no concept of a true fast car.

Fair and valid point.... english were never me strong point!  :innocent:

.... we digress!

For what it costs to upgrade to the R32 front brakes, i'd say that anyone with a GTI should seriously consider it. They are night and day compared to 312mm, they actually have initial bite which is something that my 312 lacked.

As for running anything like 350+ with 312mm....  :fighting2:

Are the R32 single or dual pot?  Yours that were loving refurbed by dave are single but google image search shows some as 2 pot is this a difference between Mk4 and Mk5?

Mk5 is single pot piston it's mainly the bigger disc your paying for with this set up

MK5 R32 is a single piston like mat said above... 57mm i think!

MK4 R32 is a double piston!
