.
Why are VAG so keen to stop aftermarket tuning? If it's known that an engine is tuneable doesn't it potentially sell more cars?
Because like anyone who design something and knows everything about the thing there designing it for as they have access to said designers they take all sorts of things into consideration with there maps. They prob want to reduce the risk of more warrenty claims too. VW spend month after months and years testing there maps in all sorts of conditions and bench test the engines to over 175,000 miles time and time again. Tunners like to spend a week if that and call it extensive testing   VW maps also learn and adapt were as some tunners you stick an air filter on it gets upset.   Why do they protect them, maybe they know something more.

got some performance figures for you here from EVO

no bad considering the others are more powerful by 11-30hp!!  takes the mini up until 80mph before its extra 30hp allows it to beat the Polo.  they should really have compared it to the normal Coop S though and not the Cooper S JCW

not when they should buy the flag ship model instead.  Buy a GTI for 20k add £500 remap and have R32/ed30 performance.  Would cost you alot more to buy the R32.  Same with the diesel guys, why pay extra for a CR170, when a CR140 will hit nearly 190hp with a £350 remap.

....Of course. I should have realised this.

:happy2:

Maybe also to prevent more warrenty issues ?

It's all relative though Sy.. As you map the CR170 and get more than a mapped CR140.. I for one was drawn in to VAG cars by the fact that they were so tunable and generally understimate their power claims. Unlike Renault, Ford etc who struggle to actually make their claimed power.
Kind of glad I didn't opt for the S3 now, as I would have been pulling my hair out waiting for Revo to crack the new software..  :signLOL:

Could be Rich, but most of the parts that are affected when mapping a car, are consumable parts (clutch, tyres, brakes etc). So not covered by warranty anyway..

Poor show from the VXR there..  :surprised: Thought they were quicker than that?

On paper those are very very respectable stats from a car like the Polo  :happy2:
It seems to take a lot for a VAG car to impress Evo in terms of stars of late, although I'm a self confessed avid reader of theirs.

From what I can gather, those times were done in the wet..

that is true.  Reading the review all the times were in the wet.  They also said it would be easier to replicate that performance in the DSG as its idiot proof.  With a manual you can easily feck it up in the wet.

They werent impressed with the polo in the wet for handling in comparison to the others, however were much happier with its dry handling in comparison

Im quite tempted by one of these in Black 5 door... As the GTI I love, but it's a 3 door, and getting my little man's baby seat in the car can be a challenge at times!

Anyone know if a 5 door Polo GTI would be roomy enough in the back for a little baby to toddler age etc?

Also, why do people always say a Polo is a girls car?! I like them!
