"Mirror down" function
« on: February 21, 2009, 04:41:46 pm »
Hi All

Trying to figure if my Mk5 is broken... I was having a look at the options via the highline, and I noticed that the "mirror down" function was turned off. I guessed this would tilt down the mirror when in reverse.
I set the mirror switch to the left (passenger) mirror, and indeed when selecting reverse (it's a DSG), the mirror drops down. However, when I select drive and move off, the mirror stays pointing down unless I move the mirror switch away from the left position. I'm guessing this isn't how it's supposed to work (I would expect the mirror to return to the normal position when leaving reverse gear) - am i wrong, or does it need a reset / fixing?

TIA

Si

Your correct, when you go out of reverse gear it should angle back upwards again. With mine, it does not do it immediately, I have to drive over a certain speed (maybe 10mph), and then it will return to the upright position.

You do have move forwards subsequently at about 10-15mph before the mirror moves back to the 'normal' position.

Cheers all - indeed you're right. I didn't go fast enough before, so thought it was broken.

I thought exactly the same thing when I first got mine. Great feature, I can park very accurately on the passenger side... shame it’s not an option on the drivers side.

You need to have the optional rear parking sensors or the lux pack for the tilting passenger mirror functionality.

yep, true. there will probably be a control module needed, for parking sensors. if you fit factory parking sensors, its possible it would work, because you have the sensor installed for the car to know its in reverse. this is when the mirror will go down

im not sure you need parking sensors for this option, as i thought it was standard on early Gti's ?
