Anyone know how to remove inlet manifold (mk 5 tdi)
« on: December 15, 2010, 04:23:31 pm »
Hey all,

I've found a walkthrough on how to remove and clean the inlet manifold on a mk 4 golf, but so far I cant see anywhere about the mk 5.

Any tips? I wana get that sludge outta there!

Which engine have you got and is it the plastic or metal inlet.  They are very easy to remove, but the sludge isnt as easy.  Bloody messy stuff.

Mine is BXE which is the 105 bhp Tdi engine.

In the next couple of months I'm looking to clean out both the EGR and inlet manifold so any advice would be very much appreciated.

Is the inlet at the front or back on those?  I generally work on the PD140/170's.

On the 105PD 1.9 the inlet is on the back... its the same basic engine as the mk4 lumps... just with different specs and a FMIC

2.0 TDI 140 mk5 version - I'm guessing at metal inlet?

Do you have any tips to get the sludge out?

thanks for the replies

These are really easy to remove.  Just a series of allen bolts to remove.  All really easy to see apart from one which you need to remove the egr valve to get to.

Scrape as much of the gunk out first, then get some very strong degreasant to get the rest out.  Ive soaked them in hot acid baths before, but that still didnt get rid of all the crap.

Best to get a new gasket too.

On the 105 engine, its just more fiddly to get the mani off.  Just a few more things in the way.

On both the egr's, when you clean them out dont submerse in cleaner.  Scrape all the gunk out and use a rag to clean the rest out.

The injectors are in the head rather than on the inlet so you wont have a problem with them popping out.
