Won't your 335d be quicker? I know my ed30 keeps up with these 997s! Although I'd love a C2S in a heart beat!!

Sorry for digging up an old thread but can anyone tell me what is the difference between the 325D, 330D and 335D? I know the 335D has twin turbo but that's all I know  :stupid:

325d and 330d single turbo.

335d twin turbo.

All are 3 L diesels.

Post LCI (facelift - about 58 plate) 325d and 330d allegedly share exactly same engine/turbo/injectors - just ECU being different ... thus they remap to same bhp !
Pre LCI 325d had different injectors / turbo to 330d so only remaps to about 245/250bhp.

325d is either 197bhp - pre LCI or 204bhp - post LCI.
330d is I think 221/231 bhp - pre LCI versions or 245bhp - post LCI.
335d is I believe 286bhp.

0-62 times are roughly depending on version :

325d 7 (197bhp) -7.5 secs (204bhp)
330d 6.1(245bhp) -6.7 secs (221/231bhp)
335d 6-5.9 secs (pre and post LCI ... power same though I think .. just LCI a bit more economical)

The 330d LCI and 335d LCI are almost the same to 60.  It is after 60 that the 335d makes gains being around 13.5 secs to 100mph versus 15 secs for the 330d.

335d has very linear power delivery compared to 330d so is deceptively quick ... my 330d LCI felt quicker on a test drive but isn't ... the fact it felt quicker though made me buy it ;) ...oh, and about 10mpg better on diesel ...

Mine being mapped:


All 335d engines make similar figures when tuned wether its a 2007 or a 2010 model. Torque delivery is brutal and it has a fantastic chassis, will ourun most things in a straight line, only thing I have had trouble with was an M5. Will also outhandle most hothatches without any mods, brakes are great and a drive to Derby from Newcastle with cruise set at 70(ish) on the weekend saw 45.5mpg.

Yes its quick but you dont get the throttle control and sound that a nice 6cyl petrol gives. Auto box with flappy paddles is ok but lacks feel of a DSG (or equivalent) and Msport ride with runflats is a bit harsh over broken surfaces.

Still the ultimate Diesel though  :smiley:

DCT is the way forward, it gave devastating performance in the new shape 530d I had last week, a lighter 3 with mapped 335d power would shat on most things.

However, speed isn't everything. Who cares if it is/isnt faster than a C2S??

Ive got to say i wasnt to impressed by the e90 in the corners, although its was brilliant to drive !

Great info guys. The PDT vid was fantastic. Great gains from stage 1 map. Would you say a 335D would be better than a 335i?

If I had the choice between the 335i and 335d then I would take the i. But if fuel economy mattered then it would be the opposite.

either way, both class leading cars! My dad has a E350 conv and i much prefer the BMWs over that!

A decent video that is ruined by the fact he has a fooking car suitcase on his roof.. That would be like dragging a parachute once at high speeds..
There was another vid of these chaps where they ran without his wind sail. Also against a 335i (stock and mapped). The Pirelli has does have Bluefin though, so not properly mapped..  :signLOL:

My ED30 stg2+ vs my 335D was similar to that vid. The ED30 would storm away from the 335 but the 335 would gain on it so it was level by highish speeds.

As a comparison, my mate's mapped 335d use to run near identical terminal speeds @ Pod to my Ed30 when Stage 1 (with Milltek). Top speed would always go to the BM though, as cc's/torque/power and aerodynamics always win when V Max comes into play..

Your right. blufin isnt the best map, i would change if it wasnt for money! Theres so many out there that i wouldnt know where to start looking!!
