RNS310?
« on: December 19, 2010, 11:48:21 am »
Hi everyone

Just wondering what peoples views are on the 'new' RNS 310?

what are its benefits/disadvantages/differences compared to the RNS 510?

aside from the obvious difference in price, the 510 having the 30gb hdd and the larger screen.

will the rns310 still display mp3 information and navigation instructions in the full screen MFD?

thanks

Just watched some videos on YouTube, the screen doesn't look that much smaller, well it does but doesn't look too small if your with me?

The nav shows fine and have split scree for additional info etc, SD card slot still and like you said no hard drive.

It diesplays MP3 information and the way you scroll through your music looks ALOT nicer!

Type it in on the tube ;)

Alternative have a gander here -

My question is though, will this be a straight fit or still need VAG-Coming? Anyone here able to do the 310?

Just bought an RNS 310. Will be my Xmas prezzie.

Be a straight fit? Seller said aerial might need adapter?

Does the 310 also have the battery draining issue?

It should work fine, but to get rid of errors in the can gateway etc it will need coding.

It will give battery drain on the older can gateways.

As for the aerial it can be got around be removing the plastic casing from the existing aerial cables to make them fit.

Paid less then £300 for mine posted including proper manuels, proper sat nav discs and map discs, less then 2 weeks old and new gps adapter.

Fitted it myself on xmas day, and had no battery issues yet in my 05 plate golf. Looks spark, very smart, shame theres no postcode search function for the sat nav :(

Sounds like a good buy..with them being so new are they LED screens??

I'm sure if you looked into vwnavi on a regular basis the f/w will be available allowing you to upgrade and get postcode search in due course.

Or do what I do and pester Darren!

Had a word with a few people firmware will be diffrent as it's now made by Blakpaunt (sp).

Certaily a great buy though i love it, pretty sure it's LCD though, might be LED I honestly couldnt say lol.

My main concirn is battery drain and when I will start getting it, like I said been in now for nearly 10 days and it's been fine! Fingers crossed.

Sorry to bump this old topic guys but I've just put an RNS 310 in my 06MY GTI. Was it ever confirmed whether this particular unit can cause battery drain? I know it happens with the RCD/ RNS 510 but from what I've read on here nobody ever had any issues with the RNS 310. Thanks

Luckily for you I've just popped online to see these forums.

I can confirm I had a gateway that if I bought an RNS510 would of got drained. However I got the 310 and never had a single problem with it. So safe to say this will not cause battery drain!

A month later and no battery drain whatsoever! That's included leaving the car parked up for extended periods of time and lots of high power consumption short journeys with the headlights on.

Seems to be quite a well kept secret but this would appear to be the best unit to retrofit to older Mk5s. Save a fortune over the RCD/ RNS 510 with not having to mess about with the gateway, and you gain an AUX input too  :happy2:
