It's an auxiliary heater which warms the car and engine.
I think most of the northern America vehicles get these as
Standard. ESP the diesels. It's an electric heater that comes
On before the engine

It's a great thing. You can set the clock when you are going to work and the car will be defrosted and warm. Or you can buy more expensive version which has remote control for turning on. SO you can do it whenever you need to.

With that sort of question you could change your user name to 182_green...

I can't say I'm worried about it's green credentials, it's more the fact I would not want a dead battery when I came to drive it off !

I think the ones that come on before the engine is running use petrol from the tank to generate heat rather than the battery. The aux heaters fitted to diesels run of the battery but only work when the engine is running.

Great technology....Wish my car had this in the morning. Save me sitting in the cold. I do have heated seats, which is the next best things.
HHHHMMMM toasty backside in the morning.
