John The Boy's Mk5 GTi
« on: March 01, 2011, 07:15:20 pm »
Hi people!

Picked up my Mk5 Golf GTi last Saturday and just got around to sorting a thread for it.  Unfortunately no good pics of it yet as I'm waiting for some decent weather and daylight.

Silver, 3 door, full leather (heated), Sat Nav, 6 disk changer, 18" monza 2's which were fully refurbed before I collected it and Xenons....... by god it goes!!! Thing that's impressed me the most is the handling though, unbeliveable grip and just doesnt roll.

However.... got a few questions with it at the mo.  The sat nav/radio unit has a 'TELE' function.  What in gods name is this for?? Was hoping it would allow me to connect to my phone via bluetooth for calls.  Would I be right in assuming you can retrofit a bluetooth unit to allow this to work?  Any ideas how much it would cost to do?

Also I looked at a mk6 GTi in a showroom the other day and it had an AUX input socket near the handbrake.  Would I be right in guessing you would need one of these to get anything to dial up through the AUX channel on the same head unit?  Once again how much would you expect that to cost to have it retro fitted as I wouldnt mind using my ipod/iphone for music sometimes.

Welcome to Mk5GolfGTI.co.uk and how people can spend your money, as for the TELE I would expect this to be the Telephone side of the RNS 510, if you press it and no Bluetooth phone kit fitted it should mute the sound of whatever is coming out of the speakers, if it goes to the telephone screen it will have Bluetooth fitted?

Check it will work with your phone before you buy.
As for the AUX input it would probable better to get the MDI

Centre console and glove box versions available.   :happy2:

It's the MFD2 unit I have in.  So not sure which one of those Bluetooth unit's I would need and where they would go in the car, not too easy to tell. Yep I'ts an I phone I have.... should be obvious from the awful photo quality ;)

Also as regards to the Ipod cable, I've found them to be awkward and not sure how easily I could control the actual ipod from the head unit if it was to be in the glovebox, would rather the ipod was in each reach to change songs/albums..... all to be controlled by the passenger you understand ;) :driver:

Well I've finally got round to taking some snaps of my GTi.  Been a bloody pleasure to own so far, very quick when needs be but managed 35mpg on a motorway run last week just sticking to 70, looks great and goes great!

Hope you all enjoy!
