Hesitation issues - advice please :)
« on: December 21, 2010, 06:34:52 am »
Hoping you could help - the last few days my car has pretty severe hesitation when in, mostly, 6th gear and I notice it sometimes in 5th.

Most noticeable when on the motorway about 60mph, in 6th and when I put my foot down, hesitation city, stuttering away as it accelerates

Seems fine when accelerating up the gears.

Any ideas on possible cause?

Very many thanks
Richard.

Possibly coil pack on it's way out. Or fuel cut's if the car is mapped. You need to get it logged first off, or we are just guessing.  :santa:

I have had the same thing recently. As mentioned by TC, hesitation when accelerating under load can often be misfires through a coilpack in the early stages of being on the way out. The fuelling is another suspect and I wonder if the colder (denser) air can highlight an underlying issue - are you running an uprated fuel pump? Are you remapped? - load control either in the remap or MAP sensor is a less likely candidate.

As TC says, without VCDS logging of misfires, fuel rail pressure, boost and engine load as a start, it is only possible to speculate.

Interestingly I had previous had a Bluefin map on the car - and no issues, then reverted to the normal map, again no issues. A month ago reflashed the same Bluefin map and I had a fair bit of hesitation issues, all over the place, so reverted back to the standard map - which is now giving me the hesitation problems.

Everything is standard on the car.

Sounds like it could be a coilpack - I'll look to get it booked in.

Thanks guys

Cheers
Richard.

Hi Richard. Hope you are well?

I've had the same issues recently too, but without having yet had it checked out, I'd simply put it down to the colder, denser air causing momentary fuel starvation. Jim at Star Performance said that I'd probably get away without an uprated fuel pump when I got my remap, but I wonder if I should maybe drop him an e-mail to ask again.

I had all four coilpacks replaced when the map was done only a few months back, so I hope to hell it's not them!

Cheers.

Hi Derek :)

Doing great thanks and the kids are ecstatic about Xmas arriving - what a wonderful time for year for them.

Sorry to hear that you've got the same problem with the car - wonder what the cause could be given you've had the coilpacks changed already?

Yes, email to Jim is probably the best option for us both.

Have a great Xmas when it arrives and all the best for 2011.

Cheers
Richard.

Had an email back from Jim at Star and he thinks it's the coilpacks - so might be a fuelling issue with yours?

Thanks Richard.

I must get in touch with him and get it looked at, but combination of weather and time of year mean it may be a few weeks before I can get over there. I wonder if one (or more) of my coilpacks are away already!  :surprised:

Right - have e-mailed Jim whilst it was in my mind to do so, so will report back once I've had a reply from him.

All the best, Richard.

Derek.
