Surely the coldest ever Winter
« on: December 22, 2010, 10:57:05 pm »
last night was the warmest it's been here for a month, solid, and it was −1.  :scared: It was minus 14 the other morning, couldn't get my van door open, and it was minus 8 yesterday coming back from tesco's. It normally doesn't even start getting really cold until mid january.

It has to be coldest Winter on record since these blighter's were roaming around.

As baltic as its been, as a world we are still heading out of the last glacial period when the big fury elephants were around.  The last really cold snap was in 1600's when the Thames froze over enough for people to iceskate around london and hold a fair on the river, imagine winter wonderland but on a frozen river!

Wiki article on it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Ice_Age We studied this and the medieval warm period as part of my degree course so sorry for the geeky-ness  :jumping:

I am hating the cold, but loving the snow, (just not looking forward to the gas bill!)
Keep pouring water over peoples cars at work, or building a snowdrift  behind their cars for when they leave to go home!

My mate did this to me when i had my old Audi Coupe in germany.  He kept loads of buckets of water outside in the cold and then poured all over my car when it was dark.  It was about -17 day time temps outside and in the morning there was sheet ice over my car.  the amount of tips up and dpwn the stairs with a kettle was ridiculous

I'm sure we can't really complain in comparison to the guys in Scaugghhtttt-land or in comparison to Danish  If I read that post right, you meant -25 degrees celcius Danish? That's probably a normal winter morning for you  :scared: ?

Probably is one of the consistently coldest in the UK, but my manager of early 40's was saying yesterday it's been worse for a few years in the 70's and early 80's?

.
The worst thing about it being cold in the UK is not the actual minus temperature but the fact that it's a damp cold and not a dry cold as in Canada for example. Damp cold feels nasty, just as dry heat feels more comfortable.
