Front door cards, how to get back ON (not off!)
« on: December 27, 2010, 11:41:48 pm »
Hey folks,

Changed my interior last month but the 2 front doorcards I didn't get round to doing until now.

Anyhow, I started on the front passenger side, easy enough to get the card off, and swap the switches / handles and things over.

Could I get it back on? No! Is there some sort of tactic to it? I tried putting the doorcard on from the top first (slotting it in the window area) I can get the screws to align, just not the big plastic clips to clip in place! I pushed the door card in towards the door to try to get them to clip on, with no success!

In the end, I just screwed all the screws in! As like I say they aligned up, but I know the actual big plastic lugs are not pushed in together so it's a pain, and it's noticeable to a point.

Any ideas / suggestions on this one?

When I took my cards off I struggled for ages to get the doorcards back on correctly. In the end I pulled out the plastic circular clips from the doorcard and put them in the door holes, and then just punched it  back into place, It is nearly impossible to do it the other way as they all face in different directions.
I think 2 or 3 of my pins aren't in place correctly, but with the screws and other clips I think there is more than enough to hold them on.

Now there is a good idea! Correct, they all face different ways, some you'd need to lift at an angle, others are straight on.

Taking them circular clips off the doorcard and putting them on the door first, is the answer! Well done that man, thanks! ;)

Hi Sean
Glad to hear you have your car back.
First before you put the door card back make sure the black pop stud fixings are extended, replace any damaged ones
after you have plugged all the wires back and the bowden cable
hook the door card on top of the plastic trim which should be on top of the door. you might have to use a bit of force to keep it close to the glass and guide the pop studs to the holes. put the 2x screws back to hold the card in place, then push where the studs are or lightly thump it till they close. Put all the screws back and other trim.

Have you guys had any issues with rattles/noises etc since doing this?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Hi guys, thanks for this, did them yesterday took about 10 mins, admittedly so much easier as I had a friend holding the door cards whilst I undid the cables etc but putting the pop studs on the door cards first was so much easier!

Thanks again,

Sean
