MK5 GTI 2005 Manual deceleration noise
« on: December 31, 2010, 02:28:21 pm »
Hi All,

I am new here, and hoping to get involved in the general mk5 gti arena :o)

I have recently bought my first Golf GTI on an 05 plate, and am very happy with the way it drives / handles - even though it is 'merely' 200bhp, im used to 90 so its a huge stepup for me! :o)

I heard you guys were a nice bunch, and decided to come check it out, and also get some help too, My niggle seems to revolve around when i slow down in the car (have to open window to hear it too)
If i press the accelerator and let it go, and let the revs drop, it sounds like a bike chain noise when i get below 2000 revs.
The noise can be heard if stationary too and pressing the throttle, so not just when on the move.

Does anyone know how to resolve this? the car drives perfectly.
ps anyone know if the beep for the seatbelt can be turned off too? so annoying!

Any help will be greatly appreciated - thankyou :o)

Before you go down the road of engine issues have you checked that its not a loose heat shield underneath the car ??

As for the bonging - I think it can be deactivated if you have the Highline computer ?

not sure which computer i have ..

It doesnt sound scraggly like a heatshield might, (to me) -- it actually sounds like a bike chain noise.. very peculiar.

would it help if i was to upload a video / with sound of the noise happening? it can be quite clearly heard i could get it on a video or something ... ty for your fast responses. this forum is great so far :o)
