Cheap CAN Gateways?
« on: December 29, 2010, 08:05:20 pm »
Hey folks,

Lee posted up a great link to an eBay seller selling AF Canbus gateways, unfortunately they have sold out it seems - typical of my luck!

Anyone else know of any more for sale cheap-ish?

I found a 1K0 907 530 S

Would that stop the battery drain in an 05 GTI and allow latest firmware on a RCD510?

Thanks,

Sean

I fitted an S revision gateway when installing an RCD510 to my 55 plate GTI and it works fine, no battery drain at all.  :happy2:

Hi mate, thats excellent news.

Where abouts is it? I keep reading its above the pedals, then others say its behind the center console? Is it a pain to switch them over or a 10 minute job?

I'd try the 510 first before splashing out on a gateway. I and others on here have got away with fitting the radio to a car with a K revision gateway with no issues.

How quickly does it drain it? I fitted an 310 on xmas day and still OK for now?

Hi Shaun,

Sorry to hear they have sold out now..they were a bargain!!

Anything over L will be fine for the drain issue. Some K's are ok but best to get L or above.

Mine was above the pedals and a pig to get too  :fighting:  although I have got hands like an ape!! I removed the heater pipe that takes the air to the footwell to make it easier and did it in about 10 mins but I lost a fair bit of skin!!

The sadist-modder in me is enjoying the idea of having to change it, don't know why

Take it that heater pipe is just clipped on?

Managed to bag a later one, 1K0 907 530 AF

£60 all in, not sure how good a price that is, but its dated 01/2009 so at least fairly new!

Will arrive next week hopefully!

Not new but looks as good as to be fair, coming all the way from our friends in Germany! Something like 70Euro all in.

It's back mate! Although it seems lovely, I think a bracket has come off/loose underneath the car, as when I drive to park on a kerb I can hear a scraping! It's prob just an exhaust bracket dangling down that the people in the repair center forgot to tighten up, haven't had chance to have a look due to work but going to take car in for 2 rear tyres tommorow so will have a look on the ramps!
