Rant about tyre fitters!

Hey folks, merry Christmas, happy new year & all that jazz...

I can't believe how difficult it is, to get 2 tyres fitted round here!

I have the tyres brand new, been to different places, prices ranged from £15 a wheel up to a whopping £20 a wheel.

One of them was humming and harring... "What tyre size" ... "Alloy wheels?" "What car?" :breathe in some more: £20 a wheel.

... I guess I hadn't realised we drive tractors with 50" wheels, such is the complicated nature of tyre fitting to our cars.

Even companies that quoted me £8 a tyre came back with "nah its £15, dunno who quoted you £8 a side"

For humour I called Kwik Fit, but was told they don't fit anything they don't supply.

I might just put a string round the tyres and walk round the town centre asking people if they want to fit them.

I know it's only £10 extra, as I was happy to pay £10 a side (£20 total) and £30 is the cheapest quote, but it's the principal, i'd drive to them so not like theres any transport cost!

15 a corner is normal price. i got mine done for a tenner only because i booked a friend in for it at the same time

Everytime i've asked anyone it's always been a tenner a side, but if you folks on here are saying 15 a side is going rate, i'll go cap in hand to one of them tommorow.

... Since then i've just had the best of all, £30 a side - that was from a local tyre fitter who i've bought loads of tyres from in the past, what a joker!

£30 a side is the same as £15 per tyre, since theres 2 per side

I usually get them fitted for £5 a wheel or less sometimes. Quite cheap round my way but there not the most professional outfits.

£15 a wheel is normal, we pay £10 at trade rates.

After all, 4 tyres can take an hour to do easy, especially if wheels need removing and refitting and theres the old tyres to come off etc....  Then theres the new valves and balancing...... So £15 a tyre is relatively cheap. £20 isnt too bad either, after all, you are asking them to do a professional job using expensive tools and equipment.

Will obviously depend where you stay and how much you care for your wheels. I wouldnt base where i went on it being the cheapest. I always go to the same guy, and i always buy my tyres from him. Ive became mates and now i get it cheaper than usual. £15 a side isnt dear, especially when there not supplying the tyre because there loosing money on that.

The £30 a side guy wanted £60 to fit 2 tyres, to me thats ridiculous.
(It's 2 rear tyres that need changing)

15.00 quid a corner round my way as well,i don't think it's too bad & it's not as if you can do it your self with a set of tyre leavers

I know the independent down the road from me  charges different depending on the size of the wheel and how low profiles you have. If hes seen monza II i don't blaim them for charging more as they have to be really careful not to mark them.

i had some fitted last week and they charged me £6.50 a wheel,if i've got the tyres myself i normally remove the wheels on the drive and take them down in my missus car
