RNS510 - firmware upgrade, successful or not?
« on: January 01, 2011, 02:44:41 pm »
I've just updated my RNS510 with the new V7 maps & unfortunately it hasn't fixed the "postcode issue". Apparently I need to update the firmware - I have a copy of 2720 ready to go but am a bit concerned as it seems the process isn't always successful. I'm just trying to make my mind up whether it's worth the risk

 thanks

 Simon

From what I know and have read your O.K to upgrade the f/w as long as your unit was'nt opened up to retreive the pin code.

The best way to check for this is checking the security seals on the unit itself to make sure it has'nt been opened.

Was your unit factory fit, retro? If retro did you get the pin code on a vw card?

Do you have a proper V7 map or a renamed version 6 map ?, is it genuine or not

I downloaded the map TBH - I know it's a V7 though as I previously had V6 installed and some recent local road changes are now included and weren't on V6.

I'm pretty certain I need newer firmware to activate the 7 digit postcode - just a bit concerned about some  of the comments I've read elsewhere, talked to VW and they don't have any official firmware updates to fix this - only option is the stuff on the web.

My units a genuine, factory fit model so no risk from it been tampered with

You need 268X or higher to get the 7 Digit functionality to work.

If you have an OEM factory fit unit then the upgrade will go fine as long as you burn the disc as slow as possible, verify it and when you do the upgrade DO NOT turn the ignition on :happy2:

Just taken the plunge with firmware 2720 & it's worked perfectly - now have 7 digit postcode slection, which is pretty much essential living in Wales !!

Didn't lose mp3s or map data
