2.0TFSi BWA Issues - Any help and suggestions appreciated
« on: January 01, 2011, 05:15:09 pm »
Car was scanned by VAGCOM andshowed 2 faults in a scan

               P1093 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
001287 - Idle Control System RPM: Higher than Expected.
               P0507 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0000

The faults are specified as

17501/P1093/004243 - Bank 1; Fuel Measuring System 2: Malfunction
Possible Symptoms
Power Loss
Misfire(s)
Stalling
Possible Causes
Fuel Pressure insufficient/exceed/fluctuating
Fuel Pump (High Pressure System) faulty
Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276) faulty
Possible Solutions
Check Fuel Pressure (on FSI engines High and Low Fuel Pressure System)
Check Fuel Pump (High Pressure System)
Check Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276)
Check Fuel Filter and Filter in Fuel Pump Casing

And

16891/P0507/001287 - Idle Control System RPM: Higher than Expected.
Possible Symptoms
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) active
Possible Causes
Throttle Valve Control Module (J338) dirty/faulty
Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
Vacuum Leak
Possible Solutions
Check Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
Check Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
Check Intake System for Leaks

The car in question when started it is idling high over 1krpm and can fluctuate itself up to 2krpm.

When driven the idle speed doesnt return to its normal position as it should meaning it won't slow down upon pedal lift off - the revs being held at 2krpm.

A specialist believe its the throttle valve adaptor / throttle valve control module, part number: 06F133062G although the car has an earlier model fitted ending in C or D.

They have removed the part and cleaned it, refitted it and reset the throttle as normally this cures the problem. Road tested and found it was better but was still not right and requires a new unit. The other problem, misfire was caused by a dirty fuel filter.

Has anyone come across this before, and if so, was it the throttle valve module?

Thanks,

Al

Hi, It sounds like the PCV vent valve leaking, this will cause it to "hunt" for revs on tickover, it's allowing unmetered air in the intake system, not a costly job nor time consuming.

If the PCV has gone, that will also mean possible boost leaks too then?

Yes boost leak more than likely. Easy quick way of diagnosing if it's gone is dissconect the plastic corroguated pipe from it block both ends of and (temporary of course) and if the idle seems to rectify itself then I would say that Is your fault. New units from VW have been modified for this issue.   :happy2:

Will get the car logged next time its possible then. The revision d valve it is then - its a pain to fit on the K03s engine with it being to the rear of the engine though. Oh well

Thoughts about the other fault?

Hi your Pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) valve is screwed to the front of your cam cover, not to be confused with the diverter valve for the turbo. There is a corrugated pipe you will see from the top and this is pushed and clipped on this is the pipe you need to block off just temporary to see if your idle stabilises. This fault may also have bought on your first fault code as this can produce a misfire.  :happy2:

I should know this - must be the bottle of whisky i have shared this afternoon  :signLOL:.

I had a PCV bypass and PCV catch can kit on my last chariot and probably have a spare PCV in my garage.

Think the DV should be a point to change too though, and the cam follower as its never been changed in 40k
