Looking for the best place to go to advise and modify ED30

I am currently looking for an ED30, I may do a deal on Tuesday on a car at my local dealer.

I want to sort the suspension out and tighten things up. I have had M5's with PSS9, and roll bars plus more recently an E92M3 which I have H&R springs an was looking at a Ground Control kit.

Having read a lot of the threads seems that the KW V3 or PSS10/9 are the best built kits, I would like to sort out the suspension for fast road only, I dislike roll and understeer probably more than most.

I am thinking WALK, perhaps some front bushes, VWR or KW/Bilstein, Eibach or other roll bars (Not sure is VWR have a better front and rear balance than Eibach and stiffer ?)

I will probably leave the engine tweaking for now, I can worry about that once the Chassis is sorted

Anyone comment on the capabilities of  and suitability for this job

AMD, VWR, VAGTech or others I am based in Hertfordshire so MK is close enough

I understand VWR have a good rep, but seems they may be pricey and perhaps more focussed on racing ?

I also want to make sure the car is looked after and supported by the same place for engine mods later and any other adjustments, plus be happy to sell the car on knowing it has been supported by one reputable company.

VWRs aftersales can be somewhat sketchy due to their racing commitments from what i gather, plus alot of their stuff seems to me to be rebadged with inflated prices.  their racing suspension is KW with their own spring ratings.  (Could well be the same though,just recoloured, who knows)
The KW V3s are very good indeed and ride very well.  they are awkward to adjust once fitted though.  the bilsteins can be adjusted much easier once fitted as the adjustment knobs are at the base. Also there are PSS10's out now.

Reference ARBs, the eibach even with the front on soft and rear on stiff gives a very neutral handling car.  I was close to buying a new larger rear bar to make it more rear biased before is old up.  if your coming from an M3 id say you want to go for a more rear biased ARB set up.  Id be tempted with the whiteline front and rears myself.  The WALK is a very good bit of kit, or maybe Whiteline adjustable front ARB, with the BSH rear 27mm adjustable ARB.

If your after a really good chassis, id say you also want to consider the TT lower control arms (some for sale for bargain price in the for sale section). this allows more adjustablity with you front camber as well as les unsprung weight.

You might want to look into a diff, coming from high end RWD super saloons you'll be used to great traction. 

What is your budget for the chassis.

Also if your interested in what an Ed30 can manage with just an exhaust/intake, fuel pump and remap then have a watch of these. They really are quick cars,  on the std turbo you'll hit between 330-360Hp for only around about £2500

Still can't help but be impressed with what a modded KO4 can compete against TBH   As you will notice, these aren't a short blast either and speeds get to around 150+  AND IT'S A HEAVY ASS 5 DOOR MANUAL!!!

Thanks, guys I have continued to read.

My Budget is get the car to be as tight as possible and not skimp, but this is a car I want to use for every day for 12m and beyond, Im hoping to get a nice RWD (sorry) car for weekends in Autumn this year.

I was hoping to sort the handling out for £2k all in if possible, I hope the get a car for £15k, add £2k for suspension then perhaps stage 1 and exhaust for another £1k

If all in it is neat, sorted, looks more like it should (-20mm) is annoyingly capable at crushing miles and irritating more exotica in real world driving, perfect.  :

I am actually quite excited about a GTi as my first real car was a Golf GTi 16v MkII, followed by a VR6, Corrado 16V and then on to other German cars....

I am thinking of a local dealer car and red, but really want an 08 20k miles, mint 3 door manual in black !

WALK £140
whiteline ARBs front and rear £300
TT lower control arms £300-350
THS Engine mounts (full set) £245
Bilstein B12 springs/damper combo £600-£700  probably the best compromise between performance and comfort. 

i found coilovers a little to harsh for UK roads.  pot hole central where i live.  coilovers are more for track IMO and you could probably add another £300+ easily.

that's about £1700.  but it would make a really competent fast road car, you could maybe use the remaining cash for either fitting poly bushes every where else, or put it towards fitting

This sounds oddly familiar to me... in august I swapped from a 400 bhp 135i to a Porsche Booster S and an Edition 30 for the commute.

I've since modified the Ed30 to Stage 2+ (around 380 bhp)  and I love it. If your anywhere in the north (Sheffield) I will HEARTILY recommend my tuner over any of the popular tuning 'brands' I see around here. I've never been so happy with the buying or aftersales service I received.

Anyway, they run two Edition 30's with hybrid turbos and about 430 bhp.... noting you're not after power, one of the guys also has the PSS10 kit while the other has just a set of lowering springs. Some good comparisons for you.

They also fitted a quaiffe LSD to my car for the previous owner.... I'd recommend that as a night/day level of mod. Just awesome.

I want to save for a gen II 997 GT3 and hope I can pick one up next winter as the attraction of a potential new model is on the grapevine and winter is looking long and horrible. Sub £80k for a low miler should be doable, they are nearer list and £90k today.

But I do want to get a hot hatch inwill love as most of my time will be spent in it !

that will be very adequate.  it might be worth considering a pad/fluid upgrade to improve the brakes grip.  If you consider that the S3/R32/Cupra all have 345mm brakes as standard to cope with the extra power they have (all well below 300hp as well).  that said the R32/S3 brake setup is only a cheap mod. there are always sets on here going for around £250.

Well I have found a 2007 black 3 door manual with 23k miles, from a dealer, I will pick up the  weekend  after next

I am still unsure as to which way to go with mods. Deinites are a Miltek back box, probably non res ? Either KW/Billies or VWR coilovers, ARB's so long as they are adjustable all look fine so either Neus, eibach, HR VWR etc. Probably a walk, some say not necessary with stiffer coils ?

Then Short shift to finish off. I will then consider a stage 1

Any votes for  VWR, VAGtech or AMD as they are close enough to me ?

By the way any further thoughts on resale. Do people think if it was modded by VWR or AMD it might have credibility. What about credibility of VWR products on resale ?

....I vote for VWR without any hesitation. I'm fairly certain I was the first person from this forum to go there. MatED30 is a fanboy too. They even service my car - Had a oil service and DSG service yesterday and every 10k miles. I drive a 340 mile round trip to MK.
