MK5 gti advice
« on: January 05, 2011, 02:00:08 pm »
I am thinking of purchasing a Mk5 gti which is just factory standard. It's a 2007 with 30,300 miles on the clock. What would a reasonable price be? I am assuming that I will need a timing belt change at 40,000 miles also?

Many thanks,
Crash

when you say factory standard do you know the spec? with a decent spec leather seats, 18" wheels RNS510, LUX/winter pack reckon you'll be looking between £9500 - £11500...

I bought an 05 plate with top spec just under 11k about 6 months ago

I thought the timing belt was done at 80,000 miles or 4 years. Thats what I remember reading from the service book!?

@chowgar That price for all that seems way too good, no?

I will post up details this evening if I can. Thanks for any advice. As far as I know it's total standard. No sat nav, winter pack, special alloys etc.

Post up some more details in terms of spec... there will be others on here that know better than me...

as for timing belts I thought it was 60k or 4 years whichever comes first, I had them replace the belt and water pump as part of the purchase along with a DSG service too.

Have we got a definitive answer on when the belt needs changing and the dsg service needs doing?

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=28653&plate=84#amount=13000&years=3

gives you an idea

looks like I didnt do too bad when I got mine....

the best bit of advice I could give though is take your time, know what you want for the price (in terms of spec) and then go a see a few cars... I was lucky that I wanted to buy mine outright rather than finance so had the oppertunity to trawl through hundreds of ads then slowly whittled down the ones I liked... if they sold then no worries just waited for something else to come along... I was determined to get anything other than red, black or grey (as there are lots round my way) and found a laser blue... perfect!

good luck

dsg definitely needs servicing @40k
cam belt is suggested @40k or 4 years but Audis with the same engine state 60k so take your pick.

I've just spoken to the garage I go to which is a VAG specialist (TC Garage) and they said for my car which is a 2007 GTI (Not DSG), timing belt should be done every 60,000 or 4 Years, Which they have have just quoted me £400 exc VAT  :surprised: Which I don't no if thats a good price or not!? Which means no mods this month!
