I've just spoken to the garage I go to which is a VAG specialist (TC Garage) and they said for my car which is a 2007 GTI (Not DSG), timing belt should be done every 60,000 or 4 Years, Which they have have just quoted me £400 exc VAT  :surprised: Which I don't no if thats a good price or not!? Which means no mods this month!

That sounds too expensive from an independent bearing in mind vat has also just gone up.
I got my cambelt and water pump changed from Awesome last year for a little under £350 all in.
Without traction power is nothing!

I have a letter from vw customer services stating that the recommendation for the GTI (mine specifically is a 2005) is 40k or 4 years for cambelt revised from original service book.  DSG service just states mileage, but from experience of a couple of people on here it seems the oil will deteriorate before mileage is up someone suggested every 4 years.

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

I am thinking of purchasing a Mk5 gti which is just factory standard. It's a 2007 with 30,300 miles on the clock. What would a reasonable price be? I am assuming that I will need a timing belt change at 40,000 miles also?

Many thanks,
Crash
Mine needs its 4th year service this year and have been told by VW it needs

NEW CAMBELT & WATERPUMP
DSG SERVICE
AND ITS ROUTINE SERVICE

It appears when these cars are 4 years old we are all in for an expensive visit for that particular service, mine is only coming up to 14,000 miles. !!!!!!!

Yeah the thread has been hijacked a bit lol

Think I may hold off as I would prefer an ED30 in Tornado Red. Feel that it's not a bad price but would feel safer buying from a dealer. Will ring round later this week see if any GTI's are coming in soon. Also a 5 door would be more practical. Don't laugh.

I did look at a TR ED30 however was just out my price range at £14k and decided against red in the end...

happy hunting mate :happy2:
