Parking Sensors
« on: January 06, 2011, 11:35:45 am »
Can anyone reccomend some parking sensors?  I want it to be as OEM as possible.

if someone knows where I can get them fitting in Bristol, or the West Midlands even better.

Get the reversing camera instead mate  :happy2: they're great and you don't need ugly black dots on your bumper!

OEM sensors or on eBay at the moment brand new direct from VW for around £200-£250, or you can get the reverse camera of there in a full kit including all loom and everything so it;s just plug and play for £250 but there's a guy on here who can supply it, not sure his price (wouldn't mind know tbh) think it might be SteveP or Simon or someone.

The reverse camera is obviously pointless unless you have an RNS 510 or RNS 310.

Hope this helps!

eBay links

Parking Sensors - £199 Or best offer (try £150?)

Reverse Camera - £499 Far to overpriced tbh as some seller makes kits for £369

Yeah I got mine from stevep for £350. Top bloke as he also did all the loom, I wouldn't fancy doing it myself! Darren (mortygttdi) fitted it for me for £60. This is a bargain price as they are an  :booty: to fit on mk5s  :happy2:

Great response,  thank you,

Thanks for the ebay links,  I don't have the RNS510 so the camera is a little pointless,  although I am tempted to get one.

One thing that guy selling the sensors states "In cars  before 2008 must be installed new can gateway price ( + 75 euro )"  what is a can gateway?  I'm guessing I'll need it as mine is a Jan 07 car.

GTIAIN - Do you know where mortygttdi is located?

Leeds. But he travels round doing jobs for people. If you need to know anything about the rns or can gateways or anything like that then he's your man.

I don't know if it's so much of an issue for parking sensors, but for the rns510 some people suffer from battery drain due to older can gateways.  :happy2:

That ebay link is for a set with the OPS optical park assist which also uses the RNS or RCD510 units, if you just want audible warning might be worth looking in there shop or checking out the kufatec website as they usually have them too. and think will avoid the canbus issue.

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

I like the look of the rear view camera, how long do they take to install? Obviously I need a RNS 510 and can bus first.

If you know what your doing it's at least 1-2hours. If you don't know what your doing like me then it's best to get someone like Darren to do it!

I can't recommend it highly enough, it's brilliant. And the rns510s not bad either!

The dealer fit sensors are about £350, aren't they? That includes painting.

Yeah I can't imagine doing it myself, being colour blind i'd get the wiring wrong and mess it up somehow.

That's quite tempting, but now I'm looking at getting a RNS510 so I can go down the OPS route. :(  any suggestions on where to get them from?
