Wing Mirror Indicator Lense
« on: January 06, 2011, 04:35:01 pm »
Looking for a bit of help please

My wife has smashed part of the clear indicator lense on the bottom of the wing mirror on the passenger side. The colour coded wing mirror itself is only very slightly marked and the indicators and coming home lights work fine.

Is it possible to just replace the clear lense only as opposed to the whole wing mirror and is it simply a case of snap off the old part and snap in the new one.

All help gladly apreciated and part number if possible.

The car is a 2008 Pirelli.

Thanks

I would imagine so as I know people have changed them to darkened lenses.

Weston has just sold a set of Inpro smoked mirror lenses, might be worth putting a wanted ad in the Wanted Section for a replacement lens. Someone is bound to have a spare knocking about! So in answer yes they can be changed!

Hi

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago, yes you can just buy the clear indicator, its £20 from the dealers.

But you do have to disassemble the wing mirror to fit it, i.e the coloured cover, the glass mirror and various screws and bits in a particular order. I think there is a guide on here somewhere.

ok thanks for the replies

I will look in the 'How to' section to see if there is a guide to change the lenses. I had a feeling it was going to be a disassemble job !!!

Take a look here.  :happy2:

Thats the guide I used, BUT do get the coloured cover off before trying to remove the glass as doing it the way in the guide WILL crack the mirror glass, i learnt the hard way lol and then its £40 for the glass.

Good luck

It's a bit of a pain to do the first time you do it, but it's do-able. The bit I hates was trying to prise off the mirror housing without breaking it! I didn't have any issues with removing the glass first but doing it in cold weather may not be a good idea.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I have just looked at the thread you recommend and the photos are very clear. I will be careful to remove the full casing before the lense.

Thanks for your help. I think I now know what I will be doing on saturday morning !
