Cheers lads, do i need to buy the small metal  brake pipes that the flexi pipes connect to on the fronts (they are handed apparently) or do the calipers typically come with them? any advice on bleeding them up i.e rears then fronts or diagonally???.....ive never really messed with brakes and am a bit cautious  :signLOL:

Sounds like a good Mod, are the S3 and R32 brakes alot better than the standard GTI brakes?

Ash

Oh yes. A bit like comparing Milla Jovovich to Hilda Ogden.

Milla is alright i suppose but Hilda Ogden is

Would this brembo kit be better than R32/S3 brakes?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270681294846&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_909wt_907

I'm no expert, but they are 312mm, GTi standard size, iirc the S3/R32's are 345mm, so probably no, they wouldn't be better.  :happy2:

They are 4pot calipers tho... so i would imagine theres a fair whack more clamping force than the single pot r32 calipers!

Erm yes 4 pot calipers will give better clamping than an S3/R32 kit.

However they would suffer Heat fade quicker i would imagine being a smaller disc.

How much does the original set up weighs ??

This is something id really like to do on my sons ED30 ,,My wife keeps reminding me its his car not mine ,How much could i get a really nice upgrade for ? .

I want a red set off s3 calipers with some decent disks and pads.

I have a friend who has a powder coating paint shop and access to a grit blasting facility .

would this upgrade fit straight behind a set off stock pescaras

thankyou

Thanks for all the replys! Decisions decisions, Brembos would look nice but shame there not 345mm. Bigger brakes always look better I think!!

What would a set off S3/R32  front and rears cost if i could buy a set of refurbished red calipers with new pads and disks . does anyone have a clue where i could find a set complete and ready to bolt on ,

I find it incredible that the sets available on ebay are so dirty ,why does the seller not attempt to clean them or am i just being anal ..

How hard are they to refurbish ?

I have a set off std Brakes coming off the ED30 that have covered 13500 miles what could i expect to sell them for

The rears are a direct bolt one.

Same lines, same pads, same hand-brake fixtures etc.  Just the calipers and discs are different.

the Std GTI rear dust shields are used too, just tweak slightly to provide clearance.

First of all, sorry for the thread jack Flyboy  :ashamed:

I've just bought some Golf R20 brakes, front and rear complete, these are the sane as R32 and S3 set up. Spoke to Midland VW and they've said new handbrake cables are needed (these were not included) as the current ones will have too much play if reused and standard rear dust shields look a mess if 'tweaked'. Is this right? If not, does anyone know a reputable garage that can do the job for me in the midlands, preferably Birmingham?
