CAN Gateway fitting, does it matter if it's LHD/RHD?
« on: January 10, 2011, 01:08:46 pm »
Hey folks,

Im not quite sure when i'll have the chance to attempt this, but my AF gateway arrived today from Germany.

Im familiar with what needs to be done, however one thing i've just thought, do they 'code' the gateway for a LHD / RHD car? As being from Germany this AF gateway would be set for LHD?

I wouldn't normally have thought of it, but after some googling it seems someone has mentioned they had to code a LHD gateway to RHD?
(But I can't see anything in the coding list which specifies this)

Thanks :)

The gateways are 'ambidextrous' (sp) Shaun

The coding for it is Byte 6 I believe from memory, along with the number of doors. :happy2:

Although Im not sure if that was in my old F gateway or the new AF one so you'll have to check as it may of moved.

You need to code it to RHD otherwise the rear fog light and reversing light illuminate the wrong way round. Can't remember whether it throws a fault with VCDS if you forget to code it RHD.

What he said ^^^^^^^^^

When Darren did my CAN Gateway we forgot to swap it over, the light came on the dash saying reverse light out and rear fog light out. Once re-coded it worked fine :happy2:
