Ebay fault scanners

Firstly, i only need a machine that can clear codes and detect them.
I know vag com is the thing to have, but i really wont use any of the features except this.
My question is do the ebay ones find all the faults that the vagcom would find?.. and if so does anyone know any cheap good ones for my gt tdi?

Anyone know of a cheap one that clears airbag faults too.
