Finally sorted the firmware and the maps. Had to get a verbatim copy of the maps as my TDK ones would not work. I'm on 7920 now and 3810 firmware I believe.

I think I've buggered up my update to my firmware! Please can someone help as my battery drained after updating to the modified 4020 sw from 1120.

I thought you could upgrade straight from 1120 to 4020 and get the revised partition tables to prevent battery drain. I thought this was done as my music sector is now 20gb on a 30gb hard drive!

Maybe something else caused the battery to drain flat!

You'll need 3810 to get the partition tables, then put on 4020 - this is the way I did it with no such issues.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

What does your music partition say please?

My one is currently on 20.88 GB.  I think it worked ok.

Just checked my battery after keeping jump leads on the golf for around 35 mins and as soon as I took the cable off, the power dropped from 12.5 volts to 6.

I think its my battery that's not holding its charge

You'll need 3810 to get the partition tables, then put on 4020 - this is the way I did it with no such issues.

Right then.  I've now downgraded back to 3810 and then upgraded back to 4020.  I've also applied the SW 1200 VUCI fix, to ensure no more battery drain occurs.

However, when I tried to recharge my flat battery using my second car it wouldn't start, just clicking that was indicative of a dead battery.  I even left the booster cables attached in this fashion for some 35 minutes, but my battery would not take or hold any charge.

I since discovered that this battery is actually wrong for the car, it was a "Unipart" battery with only 64Ah, when it should've been 72Ah at the very least! When I tested the battery with my multimeter, during the boosting, it was in the lower 12 volts.  As soon as I took off the booster cables, the voltage dropped to 6 volts, further indicating dead cells in the battery.

So, I went out like a mad man and sourced a Bosch Silver 007 battery with the correct amperage.  Well it was 74Ah, but that'll do fine.  As soon as I put the new battery in, the car cranked over perfectly. :happy2:

Now, I can't deduce if it was my possible incorrect SW updates to my RNS 510 that killed the battery, or it was indeed dying.

Now for my next mission.  I downgraded from 4020 to 3810 and then back up to 4020.  I then applied the VUCI fix and I was finally able to apply my personal poi folder with speed cams.

Also, I can now search POI's from my map, which I couldn't do before.  As a number of other users have said, if you have a version A, B unit, then you must update your FW to version 3XXX before updating to version 4XXX or else you won't get the POI's working!

Thanks to all for your tireless efforts in helping us noobs!

Hi,

Excuse the ignorance but I'm new to the RNS510.

I recently bought the 510 C but I wasn't happy with the 5 digit post code so after finding this topic (brilliant btw) I uploaded the 381X firmware.  I didn't realise that I'd lose my maps and as I haven't got a map CD I need to purchase / borrow one.  My question is what version of of maps is compatible with 381X...I'm hoping I can install v9?

Cheers

I updated my firmware on my RNS510 over the weekend to 381x...and as expected lost my maps

Does anybody have a v9 DVD they would be prepared to let me upload - I live near to Nottingham and would of course be prepared to travel and pay.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

HI,
I have RNS510 c SATNAV- with some modified software installed.
it shows sw:3810,- the only problem I have is that is stuck to KM, I want to change it to miles- but there is no such option in menu, and menu colours are changed.

I have already downloaded firmware (sw:3810- stock fw) - installed, and no success- all as before.
How can I restore to original firmware? shall I download higher version?
Thanks

If the option is enabled in your system, then just hold the setup button for about 10 seconds and a secret menu will appear with all the information you're looking for.
