Could this be the cure for 'knocking/popping/clicking steering noise'?

Like a few others on here, I have that knocking noise when steering round corners and when reversing on almost full lock.

Been to the dealers time and time again with no luck to the strange problem.

See this on ECS Tuning and wondered if this would really cure it?

Subframe Spacer Plates

The subframe knock issue is common amongst the Golf & Jetta V and the Passat B6. If you have taken your vehicle to the dealership but they have not been able to solve the problem, here is your solution.

These bolts and spaces replace the stock bolts that connect your subframe. Over time, the stock bolts stretch and allow slop in the front subframe. Replacing your stock units with identical replacements will only delay the issue and it will reappear after the replacements stretch. Use these Genuine VW/Audi replacement bolts to tighten everything in the front end back up.

Some individuals think that because the stock bolts are designed to break in a front end collision, they should not be replaced.  VW of American has since put out a technical service bulletin to dispell these rumours and replace stock bolts with these units.

On ecs website it says the parts are Genuine VW/Audi, So may ba able to buy them from the dealer if we can get the part numbers?

Yes they are genuine parts but I bet VW in UK won't do these.

I think I read somewhere that genuine Audi bolts are very simlar to these though (I could be wrong).

Dom, I'm not sure but my Vreds have covered about 4k miles.

What is the relevance??

Reason I ask is that if you have little tread left I.e. less that 2mm and are running on different springs/coilovers it can affect the geometry to such an extent that one of the wheels will crab across the road on hard lock at low speed. So an entirely harmless question I can assure you

Bolt size is M12x1.5x110 if it helps.
