R32 bumper- new exhaust

I know it's nothing new but I'm going to go down this route, and put an r32 bumper on my gti. This obviously means I'll need a new exhaust and considering I know nothing about them then I'm after some help!  :smiley:

My car isn't mapped YET and I'd like a setup to go on now but then one that can still perform when I get the map done. I also don't want it to sound like a 16yr olds Saxo! Maybe a little louder than stock but not much.

So if anyone can recommend me a setup that it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks  :happy2:

millitek - lots had this joe had this-read his build
pipewerx - i believe big al is going this route

I've heard people talking about cat backs and sport cats and all sorts of cats! It's all  :stupid: to me! What are my options here?

And are prices similar between the 3?

....Then I would recommend Milltek and Resonated version. Non-Resonated version (changeable centre pipe section) is a bit louder but only when on the throttle. Hi-flow turbo-back will best suit remapping when you do it. But get a remap which Milltek approve rather than something which subjects your system to too much heat.

I would say don't go blueflame if your not after alot of noise iv just fitted a tbe de-cat and it's pretty loud I love it but it's anything but quite!!!!

....Yes, Milltek collaborate with all the major established tuners. It's the guys offering mapping codes off eBay etc that you would need to be careful of. That's not to say that they're all bad but the more proven the better and Revo is major for VAG cars. APR have effectively withdrawn from the UK at the moment but are also good tuners. Bluefin/Superchips are well established but there appear to more negative reports than from the others.

Other tuning alternatives can be posted here by others with experience of them.

PDT is very experienced and helpful. JKM down south (Portsmouth).

This is the same sort of sound i like on a car.  on my vRS i found that with a 3" downpipe, the engine noise wasnt increased that much, but the tone of the exhaust note was alot deeper.  When i fitted my cat back to it after a year or so, it sounded awesome when booting it, but a bit to much for daily use

....I've never quite understood the mix and match approach for an exhaust. It might cost a little more but I'd rather have the comfort of a stainless steel performance exhaust throughout and fully backed up by the manufacturer. You can't expect back up if you mix products - Milltek, for example, design their exhaust systems in their entiretity to accommodate back pressure etc etc.

Please correct me if I've misunderstood your post.  :happy2:

i think you have :happy2:.  The exhaust has two parts.  one is really restrictive to flow(the DP), one is really restrictive for sound(the cat back).  you can change both and go for a free flowing better sounding exhaust but @ a cost of around £1000+, or you could do just the downpipe, release the back pressure, get a nicer burble and have £500 in your back burner to spend on other things.

Could you explain why miltek or any other exhaust manufacturer for that matter wouldn't offer any form of back up(which they do!!) if you were only to fit one half of the exhaust system. if this were true they wouldn't sell them like that at all, they would come as a whole TBE system.  Also if your exhaust breaks whether full TBE, Cat back or downpipe, they are still covered by a warranty should they fail.  So miltek under the consumer rights act would have to support/replace or repair anything that is down to their workmanship or product.

Also reference back pressure for the whole system. Myself along with many others on here, SCN and briskoda etc have all found the cat back gave naff all gains, so that would rubbish the back pressure claim ,IMO of course.

lol.  Its simple, you can buy the exhaust and fit it however you want,and still have back up from the manufacturer. 

If your after power and a change in exhaust note-Get the downpipe £500
If your after more noise get the cat back £500
if your after both get a full system £1000.

So if I decide to get a new downpipe will I just need to get one that will fit a gti with an r32 rear?!  :happy2: or am I missing something. Thanks chaps
