« on: January 14, 2011, 07:36:29 pm »
hi all, my car has been back to vw today as it is getting through 2.75 litres of oil every 1000 miles, they have now changed my oil and filter and weighed my oil to the nearest .02 of a gram and have told me to do 621 miles and take the car back to them to see how much has gone. I am just wondering if this has happend to any one . any info would be of help my car is an 06 with 26300 miles and the car has no mods [yet] thanks Dan.

Mine has been as thirsty as yours, but i managed to find an oil leak on the back of the rocker cover.

My cambelt and tensioner were replaced by vw a while ago, and since then my oil usage has more then doubled.

I found half the small screws that secure the rocker cover had either become loose, or from the pressure inside the rocker box forcing oil out , down the back of the engine, not easily visable, unless you have a look on the drive shafts for any signs of dripping.

As said, it might be worth looking, cus it may be an external leak rather then excessive oil burning.

This i discovered, only a week after VW had my car for its annual service and didnt inform me that i had an oil leak :fighting:.

Might be worth a look.

Because if the turbo is passing oil you get residue like little splodges as it comes out the exhaust and the oil gets in the air stream you cause behind the car and sticks to the back of the back and roof. If you look at dirty vans they are covered in it... Just a idea

i cleaned my car today and did notice little specks of black stuff which looked like tar. It could that be what you are talking about also would that make the car slighty shudder on tick over or is that normal?

Yea that's oil!!! All Turbo applications do it but obv to a certain extent if you have just cleaned it maybe keep checking to see how quick it develops... I'm not sure if that's the problem for tickover but maybe the rate it's useing oil could be the cause....
