Keyfob Is Dead
« on: January 14, 2011, 07:14:44 pm »
Hi guys, need some help. The spare key fob is not working, I've replaced the battery but the LED is still not flashing. I did get some de-icer on it a few months ago but the unlock button was being intermittent but still worked.

Is the keyfob dead? How could I fix this?

Many thanks

Nasir, my battrey died and the VW dealer replaced it. I believe they have to then code it to the car.

Hi, to be honest it's very very rare that they just stop working, there isnt much you can do to fix it "I dont know a way" the actual remote isnt very expensive it's around £45-50 mark and you don't need a new key blade, and 25 mins labour to code the key, you will need both keys to have this done other wise the spare key wont work as the code has changed.
Hope that helps!

Hi
split your key and remote.
look on the remote for the part number and frequency, and get one of ebay.
I picked up one for my car for £15, coded it myself
If you don't have vag-com look for someone local

Thanks for that mate, I'll have a look into that. There's a few people with VCDS round me.

Are they always that price on ebay Eddie? Weird thing is that I can open the door manually and start the car and drive it with that key. So the immobiliser is being erm mobilised  :signLOL:

Another weird thing which may be linked, the other key has to be right next to the car to unlock/lock it. Battery on that one was replaced but made no difference.

So you cant replace the battery yourself then? Unless you have VCDS...

First
The Remote and the key (immobiliser) are separate
So that is why you can start the car with the non working remote.
I have seen remotes sell for very little, it all depends if the other bidder is desparate and will bid high.
