Which Oil?
« on: January 12, 2011, 06:27:25 pm »
Hi all

Had my 2006 GTi serviced recently and the dealer put in Longlife III 5w30.

Speaking to another dealer they said that the oil should have been used is 0w30 because I only do about 4000 miles and this would protect my engine better.

Bit confused now about which oil I should have in the car as it was originally on longlife when I bought it but I asked it to be changed to time and distance when it was serviced.

Should I keep the longlife 5w30 or change it to 0w30?

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Ben

Keep the oil you have in it already, bugger all difference in them.

Multiple threads on this. Basically the first garage used the right oil. VW have said that all cars should now be using Longlife oil irrespective of whether on longlife or time and distance servicing. Some vw dealers will continue to use whatever they want. I have had to specify longlife oil (and pay extra for it) and all of my services so far.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
