Does anyone have an oil filter drain tool (T40057) I can borrow?

Hi Guys

Recently got my ED30 and want to do an oil change at the weekend on it.

I like to do things properly, therefore would prefer to use the proper tool (T40057) to drain the oil filter housing prior to removing the filter (as per the official service guide)

Does anyone have one that I could possibly borrow for a day?

In all honesty you wont need it. I have one in my toolbox, used it once and realised it was pointless and has no benefit whatsoever.

I'm not up for breaking the valve as I've read it's easily damaged :(

No need to touch the valve, just remove the cap and use the right size filter housing socket (36mm i think) to take the housing off.

So don't bother draining the housing prior to removal? This is the first car I've worked on with cartridge filters!

No need to, once you remove the housing you can just tip any oil thats inside it out into your oil bucket

Im about to order one but am wondering why, as Dave suggested you cant drain from the sump plug 1st and then tip out any left in filter housing when you remove it?

Cleaner method as no / less risk of making mess, is that it?

Good find that, think what I need is a pig that can be plugged so I can transport it to work to dispose of the oil

I've gotta change my filter and housing next weekend! Are we saying that there is a separate plug for draining the oil prior to removal of the filter housing and filter?

The plastic filter housing has a drain valve, then there is the drain plug in the sump

Cheers mike! As always!! got a cracked filter housing too, like you said before, perfect time to change the oil, whats best? whitout searching the forum!
