Edition 30 Brakes - please help new member
« on: January 20, 2011, 11:11:57 pm »
Hello everyone

I've just bought an Edition 30 (MY08, Red) and the pads and maybe discs need doing soon.  Could people please help me with the following choices:

1.  Go to the stealers where on their fixed price deal it is £219 for pads and discs for front and the same for back (so £438 total)

2.  Get a local indie to put on some different pads front and back (redstuff?) and leave the discs - about £200

3.  Upgrade the pads and discs at a local indie.  I don't want to spend more than the cost at the stealer.  Which discs should I get?

4.  Get the indie to put on new oem pads and discs.  Which pads and discs are the OEM ones???

I'm not mechanically minded but love driving.  Don't expect to do any trackdays in the car so need decent brakes from cold.

Thanks a lot in advance guys - great forum (in fact, i've spent umpteen hours reading through posts about all sorts of things.  I can see myself getting the car chipped soon if I continue to read stuff on this forum)

Cheers

Will

I think the main dealer price looks fair tbh . Try and negotiate you may save a bit extra you wont know if you dont ask

Now may be a good time to upgrade the brakes if you are thinking of performance upgrades. Even standard the brakes are poo.

Reasonable upgrades are the Porsche Not Quite So Big Big Brake Kit (NQSBBBK) as seen on here or R32/S3/Cupra R.

Each has there merits but ultimately it's up to you.

i would be surprised if a 08 car needs discs unless its done a few miles or the pads are metal to metal....get the car checked out at a good garage or a vag specialist..where abouts are you from as a member s on here might know some one close to you..

I think he has posted pictures on here but if bought from Seat they should be red.
You can't get R32 rears in red from a dealer you would have to get them done yourself.

Before you ask Cupra R rears are the same size as a normal GTI/Ed30.

Hedge is spot on i got my bits from SEAT 'cause the calipers come through red as you would expect but unfortunately the rears on the Cupra R inc K1 are the same as a standard GTi inc Ed 30 as Hedge said. I have just purchased a 2nd hand rear setup off an R32 and the best match paint i have found so far is RAL 3002, i have a local company who will shot blast and powder coat the rears for 15 squid plus the vodka each side if that info helps at all?

sorry for the hijack on the thread for a starters, 20percent is what i got and also Volvo Bright red is a good match imo, will post up pics when ive done my rears, ive a bought new seal kit to be on the safe side! £12.00 inc vat for a full set that will do both sides (rears) from the stealers so its a real no brainer IMO
