VW Polo v Seat Ibiza
« on: January 20, 2011, 11:29:19 pm »
I'm trying to help my Dad who is looking to order a brand new car for his 70th birthday.
A Seat Ibiza 1.2TSi or VW Polo 1.2TSi? Both need to be 5dr. I know vw and seat are linked manufacturers but which to go for?
Opinions, advice welcome!

For a youngster I'd probably say go for the Ibiza, but for an older person the Polo would be a nicer place to sit.
Plus the Ibiza looks vulgar in 5 door form.

you could probably get the new fabia vRS for the same price as the Polo 1.2TSI.  mine has cost me under 13500 with the new VAT free deals.

Wouldnt buy seat though, dealers are pants

I have looked at both of these for a relative. Check panel fit and paint edges of the polos, especially on the A-pillar to wing joint. VW are really cutting back on paint finish quality. Were as SEAT don't seem to be. I guess VW just spend there budget on the inside only
I really like the polo shape but its these two points that would make me buy the SEAT.

My wife's got the Polo 1.2tsi and it's a cracking car.  Build quaility is good, it looks good and the engine is brilliant!  MPG is between 40 and 50 (sometimes more) and it's really quick - gives many a car a bit of a shock. :happy2:

Thanks for the replies. We are going to a VW garage tomorrow to have a look at and sit in some polos. Then a decision has to be made.
The polo seems more expensive and is now selling new at what golf prices used to be!!

thats why you need the fabia or Seat.  Its either that or you could throw a few thousand in extra for a VW badge

They command more money because they are more desirable. Generally speaking, the extra you spend now you will get back when you sell. Seat and skoda are much more difficult to shift a few years old. Correct or not people still think vw's are well built and last forever and I agree. What they forget is skoda an seat are right up there (maybe not quality wise) but Joe bloggs still doesn't believe you
