Windscreen and headlight washers not working
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:02:54 pm »

Hoping this is a very quick fix. As title my windscreen washers are inop.

I've swapped around both yellow 20a fuses in the drivers right side but to no avail.

Can anyone confirm the exact fuse?

No sound at all sadly not even a click. The rear is fine and the water level is high.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

All I could find was F36 – Headlight washer – 20A in the Passenger compartment fuse box.
Without traction power is nothing!

If the rear washers are working fine then its probably a split or blockage in the hose to the front nozzles.  Is there a puddle of fluid on the ground after you've been trying to scoosh them?

Yeah me too. The 20a. Fuses are yellow I only have 2 in the compartment next to the drivers door. Has to be those I reckon for the windscreen washers. I'll go to halfrauds and swap them out anyway. Else it's off to the Indy this week.  :sad1:

No puddle. Though I'll check for a blockage further thanks  :happy2:

No headlight washers either.... And although I've not mentioned it until now a blown rear brake bulb.

Perhaps the two issues are linked. Come to think about it something like this happened before but it righted itself quickly. Then I think I turned my heated mirror switch and the radio reset.

A deffo trip to the indy sadly.

Unless there is a fuse in the headlight washer circuit gone.... The plot thickens.

Both 20amps swapped out mate. No change. I'll report more when fixed. Tried to get to my favoured indy yesterday but the usual mechanic was not in, therefore they wanted me to leave the car and without a jacket I couldnt walk from its location to anywhere without freezin my nuts off.

The fault is still the same although intermittantly I flick the washer stalk and the rear wiper fires....

I think something is screwed up in the logic and that this was brought about by the rear brake blub blowing...(This may not make any sense but the two were co-incident (ie happend at the same time!).

Wish there was a reboot available to me...I guess that its a complete no no disconnecting the battery....(though I am not sure if I have the code for the radio if I needed it).

Best to get out to the garage but work is a pain right now  :fighting:

Y'all ready for this?.......

So on the way home from work tonight I had a moment of lucidity. Thought wait. Surely if I am pulling the washer stalk towards me and the windscreen wipers are not firing (they are working every other way but just not when I try to get the washers to skoosh) that there is a chance that the fault might be the stalk.....

So musing over this a bit I decide to give the top of the steering column a firm but gentle thwack....sure enough one hit and the windscreen washers come to life after a week of being inop!,, :signLOL:

Clearly a dodgy microswitch with some gunk in it or something....either way it's now working!

Should I investigate further and track down the switch and skoosh in some wd40?

Else I will just leave it and get it looked at in the next service  :star:
