I have at '05 GTI, and have just bought the R32 headlights from a salvage yard.

What are all the parts I need to retrofit these to my GTI?

Do Xenon lights need two bulbs or does it just use one bulb and shutter to either main or dipped?

From reading the forum I reckon I need bulbs(not sure how many?), igniters, ballasts (Not sure what either of these do and where's best place to get these?), autolevel sensor.

Any help would be great!!!

P.S If anyone had a link to a DIY retrofit that would be great. Thanks!

Well first of all if all you have is an empty pair of Xenon headlights then sorry to say you still have an expensive way to go :signLOL:

First you will need your Xenon bulbs, ballasts and ignitors 2 of each
one pair of indicator bulbs
one pair of H7 main beam bulbs
one pair of wedge sidelight bulbs

This is to get the headlight working which will see you around £1000 from volkswagen new.

You will also need a pair of kufatec 10 to 12 pin adapters these can be bought from either kufatec website or ebay.

To allow the high beam shutter to work if you search for my post you can see how to get this working.

The auto leveling i have not done yet but i am sure you can get this from kufatec for around £300 im sure but may b wrong that is for the wiring loom. Their is 2 sensors front and rear on the suspension not sure about a price for them but its an expensive route

Hope this is at least some help

Hi, great help, thanks! Yeah seems to be quite an expensive upgrade!! How do the lights work without the autolevelling?? Is it noticeable when driving?

Nope not really but you wont get the lights going up and down to begin with hence auto leveling  :signLOL:

People say you will fail an mot for not having leveling although i think most people have never had a problem in this department..

My car already had te headlight washers so all I needed to get the gti lights to work on my motor was the lights themselves and the kufatek adaptors which set me back £50 from Germany.
Never failed an not even without the self levellers in place.

Hi, thanks for replies!
So if I get this adapter, will this mean I will be able to control the light level using the original rheostat for the headlight level?? I read on another forum that the adapter would have to be altered to allow the use of the rheostat to control the light level, however that was on a MK4 forum??

well i dont think its the same in the mk5. Because of the senors which should be in the suspension i dont think you will be able to adapt the headlight leveling switch to work although not to sure...

The kufatec adapter only allows the headlights to be plugged in as its a differant size for the xenon headlights the the standard halogen ones.
