Gutted for you Rex. Really wanted the engine rebuild to work for you.

I know you probably don't want to think about this, but what would the cost of moving to a GTI be over doing the 1.4 build?

However, always think positive and as some doors close, others open. So, if the 1.4 engine isn't suitable for what you enjoy doing, then go for a different one. You are now being presented with an opportunity which may be better in the longer term.

I really sympathise with you after you spent all the money.  
I still think looking for an accident GTI is the best solution in the long run.
A new 1.4 TSI will be just be a new one, but still not as reliable as a BWA
or even as a BYD. And probably not reliable enough for you.

What we can learn from your desolate issues: The smaller 1.4 TSI is no
proper engine to remap and no proper engine to track. Sorry to be that
honest, mate.

BTW, am really curious how well a 2.0 TFSI engine looks after 1500 (2400) km on the track. I know fuscobal had similar issues with his engine at about the same mileage...
Yes, I agree with you, the 1.4 TFSI engine is not reliable enough for the track (I don't think the remap had much to do with this)... But, on the other hand, buying another engine every 3-4 years is not that bad...

Well, I still have to get an engine for this car in order to sell it.
And, transferring the parts is not an easy job (roll bar, brakes, fenders, suspension, sway bars, etc..). At 10k EURO I can get a GTI and when comparing with 5k the cost of an engine swap (donor car + labor), I wounder if it is really worth it...

Thank you very much for the encouragement RR! You have a good point but the cash flow is not sufficient at the moment. I wish I could keep this car as my daily drive, buy a GTI and transfer all the mods to the GTI. This is not the case so I have to find alternative solutions first of all to have the car running and then to be able to have about 4 trackdays per year.

On a side note:

If you keep the 1.4 TSI consider additional oil- and water coolers to run
the lowest possible oil- and cylinder head temperatures. I'd guess engine
life will benefit from lower temps.

Even more I wonder if there's an oil pressure issue. Have you ever heard
of the 'Accusump'?

Id love to know how much it would be to stick a 2.0TFSI in mine as well tbh.  I know the engines are cheap, so thats not an issue, but fitment wise and installation costs, who knows.  Maybe then i could drive around in confidence knowing i had a reliable engine that wasnt likely to break lol.

I think the best way to get a 2.0 TFSI engine in a small car like yours is to by the A1 with the 2.0 265bhp (the price is, however, a bit high).

....A very important consideration though when shoehorning a bigger engine in is power to weight ratio and also weight distribution. You have to avoid going 2 steps forward but 3 back.

It's exactly what I've told rex. The balance of the car might be pretty bad after installing a much heavier engine. The whole car is like 100-150kg lighter than a GTI and not only because of the engine. Installing a heavier engine might lead to something like 65-70/30-35 weight distribution !

Changing from a 1.4 TSI to a 2.0 TFSI with DSG I calculated would add 37kg to my Polo GTI. It would do the same to yours Rex as it is basically the same swap. Moving the battery from the front to the rear would swap 14kg, a net swap of 28kg. Swap to a carbon bonnet and you should lose 7kg from the front, so, basically only a 2kg balance swap, which is neither here nor there in a 1.3 ton car.

From what I read, the twincharge engine is 40kg heavier than the simple charge one (quite a big difference)....

I think your experience is outgrowing the 1.4 Vlad.  If it's financially viable it would be great to see you in the realms of modified 2.0 Tfsi
