Hurdy, I don't think we can compare the 2. Yours and mine are the turbocharged & compressor 180HP version while rex's engine is the older turbocharged only 122HP version so they might have different compression indeed !

That is what I thought Fuscobal :happy2: and why I asked if he had any guidelines as to what the pressure should be when testing.
Golf R gone.

Took a look today with my mechanic in VW technical papers and it seems a difference of 3bar between cylinders is accepted !?!? That's quite weird so I read it 2 times to be sure !
Yup... that is strange...
During one test that shows the overall efficiency on all cylinders (compression, spark, fuel injection) one cylinder was at 70-75% and the software said it is only a "warning" not an "error". At times it would go below 70% and than the system would tell me that this behavior is not acceptable (but at times it would also go back to 100% on the same cylinder).

Any guidelines as to what pressure they should be running. I'm sure when I had mine tested they were 175-180psi = 12.4bar  but it may be that mine run a higher pressure than yours?

That is what I thought Fuscobal :happy2: and why I asked if he had any guidelines as to what the pressure should be when testing.
Unfortunately I found no guidelines to the absolute pressure. I only found the ratio value which is 10.1 for both our engines. I will visit my VW dealer to see his thoughts (he investigated a similar problem with a 170bhp twincharged 1.4 TSI engine with random missfire issues above 6500 RPM and found some deposits on the valves and a loose timing belt and I am curious to see his opinion. From that the owner of this car told me there might be a recall on the timing belt issue for some models...).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

If the compression ratio is 10.1, you should see 10.1 times atmospheric pressure when the cylinder is in compression. So ~ 10bar

Thank you for the info!  :notworthy:

Hurdy... if the compression ratio is the same why do you have 12 bar compression pressure?

Over the past weekend I had no time to spend improving the car because I was on a road trip  :pomppomp:.
Along with two of my friends I visited the highest two mountain passes in Romania (one of them is the mountain pass that Top Gear visited during their show in Romania).
This was a really nice trip and I enjoyed the scenery, the car and the company.

The cars that my friends came with can be seen in this video:

the bruce you may not be able to see this video because it seems to be blocked in Germany...

One friend had a 335i with BMW Performance package (a previous mk5 GTI owner that he sold a day before the trip). I got the chance to drive this car and it is nothing like my car  :driver:
Fuscobal was driving his Polo GTI (his Golf GTI is being serviced).

A few photos:

And one small update... I decided to have the valves checked (and cleaned/replaced) so tomorrow I will pay my mechanic a visit. Hope all goes well...
Any comments are, as always, welcomed!

Just spotted this Rex :ashamed:

My compression test came out at 170-175psi, which is just over 12 bar. i don't know why it was so high unless it included atmospheric pressure on top?? Even then it is still 1 bar over pressure!.
Golf R gone.

I wonder which song is not allowed in Germany? Michael Jackson - Speed Demon?

That is strange... Once I have the engine back on I will redo the compression test to see the results...

I have no idea what SME or any of the other abbreviations (EMI, UMG, ...) stand for...

Great vid Vlad, fantastic route!!! Shame about the few sections that were being worked on.  Love the thought my old engine mount was part of that journey!  :driver:

Thanks!
I wanted to have more shots and angles but it was not meant to be... I also wish I had more editing skills but I guess there still is time to improve...
Yes, the route and the roads are really great. The thing I dislike about the road is the lack of side rails . But these will come later...
