bring my gti back from Australia?

I having been living in Sydney for the last 11 years.
I own a 2008 GTI V fully optioned and owned from dealer demo.
i'm moving back to UK at the end of the year and the car will only have about 18k miles on it by then, it's been driven very gently too, with FSH.
I can get the car back to UK for about 1000 quid, i'm just wondering do you reckon it's worth bringing it back or just selling and buying over in the UK?
if I need to sell it in a couple of years - do you reckon people would be suspicious of it as it's an import etc , even if I have all receipts and docs etc?
98 is about 80 pence per ltr over here....... and if I get "fuel price shock"  in UK I might want to flick it etc hence the questions!
It might sound a bit weird but I'm sort of emotionally attached to the car!

moving back is a tough one...the truth is, in many ways I really don't know why i want to move back.
Life as an expat really isn't that great, i've never felt "welcome" here - i'm a pom living in Oz! always an outsider!

Personally I would import it, having a car you know the history of and have taken the time to care for and are attached to is worth the time and effort.  If you sold it I assume you would come back with the intention of buying a similar GTI in the UK if you did and then had fuel shock you would likely loose about £700-1,000 on the price of the car you just bought so I really dont think you would be any worse off.  This is all just my opinion and I am very emotionally attached to my cars, as Matsu said we all have overly strong attachments to our cars on here so it might not be the best place to ask this question

I would import it too... you will loose more that 1000quid selling and buying again.

opposing view, it will be harder to sell as an import, prob OK second hand, IF you get the right buyer, but when he knows is import he will want prob 500 - 1000 off Uk supplied retail, plus you will not sell into the dealer network if you want to part ex, they will be very reluctant. I used to run a car import business specialising in VAG and my GTI is a RHD import from sweden. went to look at an "R" 2 weeks ago, the dealer said no way when he knew mine was an import, or at least so low a price as to be in effect no way.

Sell in Oz, save yourself £1000 transit, find a mint car here, and don't lose another £500 - £1000 when you come to sell on. Its a no brainer! Plus you won't have any SVA nausea, a hour of an OCD guy nit picking over every little thing, not to mention the travel to a inspection centre and all the paperwork - my mates bike failed because the headlight was permanently on and it didnt have a parking light - Doh

Like I said its a no brainer, sell and buy over here.

Regarding fuel price shock, brace yourself, 99RON super unleaded is about £1.30 per litre here, even dearer in other parts of the UK.

Im still kicking myself for moving back to the UK from China, if I could leave tomorrow i'd be at home packing right now!

Back on topic mind, if you were planning on keeping the car for a while to come then why not consider bringing it back. As above, Im also very attached to my car, its why we're enthusiasts and finding a UK car with good spec wont be that easy and when you do it'll be at a high price.

Its def worth considering the hassle but if you're intending to keep it a while then go for it!
Just do the math on expected miles, base it on the MPG people are posting - around 25ish MPG i think, then with the cost of fuel.... £1.31+ per litre to see the numbers

Anyhoo, I'd bring the car back. Just for the emotional attachment.
