Has anyone got a set of 17" Scirocco alloys fitted with 225/45/17 tyres - do they rub?
There are a few threads covering rubbing with Scirocco alloys fitted, but I can only find opinions on whether they'll rub with 225/45/17 tyres.
With my own eyes:
- With the standard 235/45/17 Scirocco rubber the rears rub on the plastic liner but not the wing itself,
- The fronts are a lot tighter - 235/45/17 tyres rub on the front wing
So, I think:
- 225/45/17 tyres with their approx 5mm extra clearance will only require modification of the rear plastic liner.
- the extra rubbing on the fronts is explained by a combination of horizontal arch lip (the rears are folded back vertically) and steering turn. I think that with 225/45/17 tyres the plastic liners will certainly need modification and the arches will probably need rolling back
So much for my theoretical ramblings. but what have people found in practice?
Cheers,
Ian
