will mine have been replaced at the same time as cambelt change? :ashamed:

It isn't a service item so it's entirely up to you when you change it, if you change it at all but for £25 I would

X2

I've changed mine 4 times now (over 65k miles). Better to be safe than sorry and although even after 28k miles (as i forgot for a bit with the last one :ashamed:) it was still fine. For £25 and 30 mins work it is a no brainer :happy2:

I had mine changed today as I was getting a bit worried about it after reading similar threads to that one on golfmkv.com.  Mine, after approaching 38k was absolutely fine barring slight discolouration were the cam lobes come into contact with it.  Suffice to say, a brand new one went in anyways.

I plan to sling a new one in every year, maybe a bit OTT but as said before, for £25 and 30 mins work, its a no brainer for the peice of mind  :drinking:

Mine was checked at 90k and apparently looked as good as new (checked by JKM) :S
These threads make me paranoid though. Apparently I shouldn't be affected by this as I've an AXX engine...

Page 8 of this document gives you an indication of the wear that can happen whether motor is standard or tuned.

http://www.goapr.com/support/fsi_fuelpump_installation.pdf

Seems to be random, but if it's worn and left too long may need the camshaft replacing as well.....

I've got a new follower sitting in my garage waiting to be installed as well ... Main cause was al the fuss on golfmkV.com (and other fora) which I visited before I found this one ...

Since I have it I'll replace it (but it'll be a pain in the ass, I have a very early pump with no pressure release valve ...), but I highly doubt if it will be necessary. Nowhere on european (uk/german/belgian) fora can I find someone who has had issues with this ... When I asked my (audi) dealer if he had ordered many of these followers in the past he couldn't recall any.

Has anyone on this forum heard from non-american cars (axx engine) having issues with the cam follower?

I know Awesome GTi have had some customer cars into them where these have needed replacing, plus they also had to do it on the grey Mk5 Stage III demonstrator they had a couple of years ago.

I changed mine at 43,000 miles after reading all these horror stories - there was only very slight wear of the black layer and no indentation whatsoever
The inside obviously had a mark from the pump, but overall it was nice and shiny!
Like others, I changed it anyway as I had bought a new one, but I'm pretty sure it would have been fine for another 40,000 miles!
20k miles were done at Revo Stage1 and 10k at ST2+....I will try and post pics later.

Has no one replaced the highlighted seal when replacing the follower?

If you have to ask why, you'll never understand.

I think from memory my follower came with the seal when I replaced mine. Not 100% sure thou as was a while ago. Had my follower changed when I fitted my autotech internals. Again as others have said didnt really need to as original was fine. It had done 40,000 and about 10,000 on Stage 1. Had no probs with pump so far but I'll prob get follower checked at next service.
