Anyone in the Uxbridge area??
« on: January 29, 2011, 09:34:41 pm »
Is there anyone who has experience with the GTi in the Uxbridge?

I ask because I bought mine a week ago and while I love the car I'm not sure if the turbo is working. I hear people talk about the turbo kicking in though mine seems to pull all the way through the rev range. Think it might be the DV as I haven't changed this.

I hear a whistle/hiss almost immediately and searching the forum I've found it shouldn't do this.....

Just wanted someone to come or I'll go to them and see what they think.

Will probably chnage the DV anyway....

Also a DSG version I drove felt alot faster though I maybe just imagining it :(

Thanks

J

Cheers mate.

Will order a DV this week and hopefully fit it Saturday....if that doesn't help then I'll give you a shout.

Will also have a drive tomorrow and really listen to the engine and see if I can feel any kick...as I said it seems to be just a gradual acceleration.

Thanks again....if you can email me you contact (msn or something) then I can get hold of you  :happy2:

Would you here the turbo when just revving the car...what revs should the hiss start??

Thanks

I know where McDonalds is, I'm off Cowley High Road.

I know very little, & I mean little, about the engine/turbo. Mine is a standard DSG but if you want to look or listen to anything I'm sure we can sort something out.

Right been a for a learning drive and almost certain it's not boosting properly.

No real kick from the turbo just a gradual acceleration..

Would a diagnostic check show what was wrog, even if it's the DV?

Anyone with a diagnostic reader (or whatever they are) in the area?

As above, can take a look if you like.
Will be able to see what levels of boost you're getting and check for fault codes etc.

The Golf doesnt really have a kick tho and is a smooth in power delivery, esp if standard

Think I maybe expecting more kick than normal....Never had a turbo so no idea what to look for.

Ordering a DV from awesome-gti.......are these ok? It's the piston type which I believe is the D version.

Says OEM so should be fine.

Personally, i'd check a dealer price first and if poss a TPS at a dealer as its going to be possibly cheaper for the same item.
But if you think something is up i'd check that first, as if there is nothing wrong then its money being spent for nothing

there is a kick... but dont be expecting a full on kick...

mine was the same not too long ago and though there was little reduction in power wasnt feeling any kick when I floored it. Took it in to the dealers ran a adiagnostic (20 odd quid) and it turned out to be a loose air hose and was fixed free of charge...

drove it home and felt a lot better...
