Strange issue?
« on: January 29, 2011, 02:28:14 am »
Cars been running perfectly for a good while now but driving home from work just now I've encountered a strange sensation in the car. The roads were quite slippery but I still like to give the car a little beans now and again on the way home and tonight was no different except it didn't quite go to plan.
I floored the car in 3rd at around 2000rpm and the car pulled as normal but then at about 3000rpm I felt the car stutter a bit and I could hear the same noise you get when the traction control thing kicks in (a sort of low volume pop type thing) which it has done a thousand times. Immediately after though the engine warning light started flashing orange so I backed off and coasted for a while to see if the fault rectified itself after a few engine cycles, which it promptly did. Further down the road I tried again and it did exactly the same. I left it a bit and tried it again after a few mile and the same noise/hesitation occurred but no warning lights?

Could it just be a traction issue or could it be something like a misfire caused by a failing coil pack maybe?

I realise I can get somebody to log the fault on Vagcom but before that I thought I'd see if anyone could suggest what it could be. Any ideas?

its hard to say without getting the car on VCDS mate, but at a guess id say it sounds like a faulty coil pack.

i had something similar on mine last year which really did my head in trying to find out what it was and it turned out to be an injector.  but as i say its all guess work without a scan  :happy2:

Cheers Brett. My local mechanic is gonna scan for faults on Monday so should hopefully pin point it. I've had a read up on some other sites and there seems to be a few people describing what mines doing and it seems to be the coil pack. The mechanic thinks the same or maybe a naff spark plug too. Fingers crossed.

Flashing eml is usually a coilpack, which would match your symptoms
