I can send him a PM over on SCN if you like, Rich? How many are we thinking of?

I tend to get near enough cost price off David as I've bought that much stuff of him and always recommend him to everyone  :happy2:

If you have a defective coilpack then it's not advisable to drive the car until fixed as you will be passing unburnt fuel into the Cat.

....Ooops! I drove 90 miles home from JKM but kept the revs low and didn't experience any misfires. I'll have to drive 90 miles to JKM on Wednesday and will take it steady again.

Are you advising that even doing that is a no-no, Stu?

As the misfires happened on JKM's dyno, wouldn't they have advised me not to drive the car if it was that bad?

I don't think it's a good idea to drive if you have an evident misfire, no.

Can you not get a Coil Pack before the drive to JKM?

Has the coil pack failed completly (running on 3 pots) or just getting misfires?

If its just misfiring then you will be fine, its just not advised to drive with a dead coil pack..

....I've got one spare one in my boot but have no idea either how to change a coilpack and certainly not how to find out which one needs replacing.

Its a 30 second job to change a coil pack, Robin. Is there anyone near you that could help out?

You will need to log with VCDS to see which is the faulty one..

....Just an occasional misfire (none in 90 miles) and not a dead one.

I drove 20 miles on a dead one a few weeks ago. Luckily I was close to VWR.

You could call out VW Assist if you have it and ask them to investigate and then offer him the replacement coil pack once he's diagnosed it.

....No-one near except my VW dealer and they would have to charge me a minimum labour plus I know they're very busy right now and probably couldn't fit me in before Wednesday. My Service Manager friend has now left and the two women replacements frankly wouldn't know what a coilpack was - They'd probably think it was a special offer on contraceptive coils!

I could phone them tomorrow though.

....Sneaky but I like it!  :drinking:

So, do I park up somewhere a few miles from home, call VW Assist and say I've just had what I think is a couple of misfires and am worried about driving further so could they please help (pity I'm not female on such occasions). Tell them I think it's a coilpack.

I'm not sure they'd come if I'm at home for such a fault although I do have full cover including home.
