GTi centre vent cover
« on: February 10, 2011, 01:58:07 pm »
Hi All

Wonder if you can help...

Am after a new cover for the centre vent on the top of the dashboard as two of the clips are broken at the back and it's rattling in it's housing (driving me nuts!!).

Does anyone know where I can get one of these from (not stealer prices), think the part number is 1K0819153?

Many thanks

Russ

I did the same, but the noise was from underneath the cover, theres a how to on getting rid of the noise, some sticky pads are req. The covers come up on ebay from time to time.

Why is that vent not fitted to all Golfs then? I dont understand why the GTI needs one more vent than the rest of the range. Mind you , the 'oddments tray' in the lesser models looks crap!

I think that vent is there if climate control is fitted, which is standard on the GTi.

IIRC it was std on the first cars, mine is an 05 on a 55 plate but was an option on later cars, POC - yours must have been one of the first where it was an option, is standard on ED30's

Can anyone point me to the thread which shows how to stop it rattling...?

Seriously, I can't turn up the music any louder to drown out the rattling noise in my car and my eardrums are going to pop!!

Here's a pic I found showing the area that rattles (it's where the trim removal tool is). I just filled the gap with a bit of foam.

^^^There are a few walkthroughs available. Look for guides on installing the rns510 as this involves pretty much the same thing.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
