Steering off after Sportline fitting *sorted*

Alright all? Sooooo, got my Sportlines on yest and upon picking the car up I noticed straight away the steering was off.
With the wheel dead ahead the car veers off to the right quite strongly.
Find I've to drive with the wheel slightly left to keep straight.
So I got the alignment checked and turns out it was spot on. So I asked to get the wheel balancing checked. So that was done also. When I first pulled away the tyre pressure sensor symbol came on. So checked the PSI of all tires and they were fine too! Still pulling off to the right!!!
Any suggestions as to what it could be?

Exact same thing happened to me. Had all kinds of suggestions of what it might be.

Your best bet is to get the fault codes read. If sensor G269 appears it could be an expensive fix.

The outcome for me was this sensor had failed. Its an integral part of the steering rack an cannot be changed on its own. SEAT wanted just shy of £1000 to supply and fit a new rack.

Holy sh*t! Not what I wanted to hear. Car's only doon 23000 miles!
I'll give the place I bought the car from a shout tomorrow see what they reckon.

you can have the tracking correct but if the steering angle isn't set to zero it will make the steering wheel be off centre..when you drive down the road the steering is trying to pull straight...hope all that makes sense :signLOL:

Thats a massive coincidence this happened to you when getting sportlines fitted as well . . . . whats the chances of that? If you search you might find the thread.

The only other person i know of that this has happened to was when they crashed the car and the sensor failed then.

I could be wrong and i hope its a simpler fix but I have a feeling this is the same issue.

VW will want over £800 for a reconditioned unit on an exchange basis  :stupid:. I bought a used one for £150 and ACR (north east vag specialist) installed it for £125.

Had a read of tour your previous post. You had a different warring in the dash didn't you?
I've not had anything in the dash other than the tyre pressure symbol.
Cluthching at straws but I'm just hoping it not the steering sensor !

I hope for your sake its not the steering sensor. Does the car pull quite strongly to one side? If you take your hands off the wheel when the cars moving does the steering veer to the side on its own? To full lock?

Not really no - when the wheels dead straight it simply veers to the right not so much so that the steering wheel is turning by itself. If I have the wheel slightly left (to drive straight) I can take my hands of the wheel and it'll stay driving straight. :stupid:

Thats sounds more like what Maxitrol mentioned a few posts ago  :happy2:

The Technician who thought this was the problem with mine told me to "put some miles on it" and the problem will go away.

There is also a reset proceedure to follow that might help. I cant remember the sequence but it was quite simple to do.

Have you had a propper 4 wheel lazer alignment or just tracking?

Doubt very much it'll be the rack sensor.

Just used Kwik -Fit. They've 2 wheel laser. The garages where I live couldn't get their gauges under the arches!!
I'll give the garage a shout where I bought the car from tomorrow. He's Audi/ VW specialist so I'm assuming he'll have Vagcom!!!
