Spark Plug issues
« on: February 04, 2011, 10:41:27 pm »
There are several cars I know of now that seem to be having or have had issues with spark plugs, specifically NGK plugs. These are now standard fit on2.0TFSi engines (CDL code) on the S3/Leon Cupra/Cupra R.

My car with only a few thousand misifres and runs terribly and a lad on here with a Leon Cupra with a BWJ engine is using the same newer style plugs and he has reported problems too. Another lad I know has a CDL code 2010 S3 and it could not get past 60mph until the NGK's were swapped out for Bosch's.

I have new VAG Bosch plugs to go in mine, and I know that the other two cars run much better now with the Bosch plugs than the NGK plugs. On my last car, I never had any issues with plugs at all and would have skipped a thread like this, but as I understand it, there issues on Ed30's with plugs too.

Interested to have thoughts and experiences on this.

I had some NGK plugs go recently. Although they had been in for 14k miles.

The OEM ones seem to be better but i have replaced with new NGK ones. Will see how they get on. I have a set of Brand New OEM ones just incase :happy2:

When you say they went on you, what exactly do you mean?

I had really bad misfires (no fault codes logged though) when accelerating.

Changed the plugs and the issue was cured :happy2:

I had Bosch super's in mine and only lasted 8k. The NGK iridiums seem to last well in my car.

Interesting. Exactly as mine is doing although I am getting some logged misfires.

I only knew it was misfiring (apart from feeling it) by doing data logging and seeing them happen. The problem is they don't stay stored unless you get to about 25 on one cylinder in a short space of time. Then it logs a fault. I was getting between 10-12 on diff cylinders but the counter would go back to 0 after a bit if I took it easy. Would only do it when accelerating not idling.

My car is in the same boat. Only see temp misfires when logging but they are never stored.

Same here, spark plug changed cured it - though unfortunately charged the coil-packs first  :rolleye:

It seems that you have issue with double platinum NGK plugs, but it worry me because I have just bought a set of NGK BKR8EIX. :scared:

JKM Tuning provide NGK BKR7EIX and BKR8EIX, so I guess it is fine.

Does any body had them fitted on their car and can give a feedback?
