My Turbo blew up on the Dyno!!! UPDATE
« on: February 05, 2011, 11:20:54 pm »
The day finaly arived, the bodyshop had finished painting various bits of my car, the new 18's were on wrapped in four brand new bits of rubber and it was looking nice, so off I went to AMD for a remap and spring fitting for the finishing touches.

But before they had a chance to remap it the turbo went pop :surprised: on the rolling road!!

I had to get 4 trains to get me home and i'm fed up  :sad1:  Lets just hope the 3rd rate party warranty covers it.

Ouch that's not good.

But better it happened before the map as you would have had no case at all with the warranty

Hope it gets sorted :happy2:

Bad times fella but remember it will all soon be sorted and better than ever.  then you wont have to worry about the turbo going as its pretty common on the GT TDI`s iirc

grab a beer and look forward to driving your freshly mapped motor  :drinking:

fingers crossed for the warranty coughing up  :happy2:
Still Here!

Thanks guys.

I have heard its pretty common, I thought there would be at least some sort of warning signs first or did I just miss them?

Depends on the damage. When my turbo blew it decked the intercooler, cat and regulator flap too. Plus all the labour. IIRC the turbo itself was £1100. My final bill had 10 hours of labour knocked off too.
They had my car for a total of eight weeks. I was on turbo 4 (2 blew on test drive and 3 went when I got the car back initially) when I traded it in for a Clio 197. Then got a call from the garage who'd ended up with TDi if I'd fitted a turbo recently because it had just blown!!!
This whole saga put me right of dealerships!!! Better with an Indy.

Sorry to hear fella! Hopefully warranty sorts this for you! Did it blow at AMD or before you got there?

Horrendous news mate.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Was there a howl noise a bit like a police siren evident before it went? Very common on early pd140's unfortunately.

Sorry to hear that mate.

A lot of turbos go pop on these. Tom went thru three I think in his tdi a3. I wouldn't map one personally because of that.

Has the problem been sorted now on GT TDI's and the newer GTD ? I fancied a GT TDI for the fuel economy but went for an ED30 as i don't do many miles. But will be looking at a GTD when its replaced in 2/3 years. :happy2: Only because i wont be working then
